Holtz probably involved. He has 1.5 years left at ELC…so the earliest we would move him would be Summer 2025.

That’s true but at his age and what he’s reportedly asking I think he’s going to have to meet in the middle between either pay or term because I don’t see a guy of his age getting both. I think teams will be more weary after the Campbell and huberdeau contracts these last few seasnons and will be more careful giving out large contracts.

Fair value but NJD would prefer to move picks instead of holtz

You would assume so, but every year UFAs go for above what expected value dictates. He has held out this long because of term and AAV. He will get paid somewhere

I view Vanacek at full salary as a negative. IMO, it’s worth a second to take him and Boston shouldn’t be that team. I think that deal favors NJ pretty significantly and would reject it outright

I’d consider Holtz and Vanacek retained for Ullmark, but I think I’d rather have a first and Schmid instead of Holtz and Vanacek.

Why would they need a goalie prospect when they have a young goalie who’s amazing? Benefits Boston more to add to the rest of the roster.

It gives them a backup option that isn’t overpaid by 1.9m and frankly isn’t good. Vanacek is a bad salary add. Atleast Schmid isn’t overpaid.

Vanacek is also only at one year remaining, if the contract was that much of an issue it would not be expensive to get a feeder team to eat the contract. That being said vanacek would also most likely play atleast somewhat better under bostons more responsibility in their own on top of being a more experienced team overall. I don’t think it’s a big ask to expect Boston to take this contract especially when dishing out a 5m dollar contract, most teams will have to move cap to take cap. Holtz is a very good prospect who will at minimum be a good trade piece or in bostons future top 9.

That comes at a cost. Ullmark for Holtz might make some sense.

Dumping contracts come at a cost. One that this deal doesn’t appropriately compensate for.

Retain 1.7M on Vanacek, I’d take him for free.

Personally I’d say Boston adds in a Holtz for Ullmark swap (though I may be overrating Holtz

    My view:

Holtz 1st+2nd, maybe a touch more (somewhere between Newhook and Dach)
    Ullmark 1st+3rd
Vanacek: 3rd to dump (and if it costs more NJD will just hang in at least this year)
