If those were the costs for those players, I would rather pay the Zegas cost and bring him to Vancouver than the Guentzel cost. Zegas is a player VAN would get a lot of years out of and plays centre which gives the team a lot more flexibility with their lines. It would be very difficult for VAN to resign Guentzel and it would come at the cost of a D or C piece.

Only thing I can think of to add, which is just reinforcement and not addition: Smith is about to turn 33 and is signed for only one more season, and he's the best element in this offer.

Likely true. As against that:

(1) Smith is a still-productive quality forward who will be on ice next season (2024-2025). That 2025 first-rounder, no matter where it lands except top 3, probably won't be on the ice until the 2026-2027 season (if ever).

(2) That pick might be #13 - #16, which won't be all that great -- probably a 2027-2028 arrival.

(3) Pittsburgh might surprise us all in the coming off-season, and put together a team that makes the playoffs in 2025. I don't think that you guys are that far away.
