Toronto clears some cap for additional roster moves at the deadline and gives themselves a clear upgrade in their top-4 while still retaining a top-50 pick in this upcoming draft

  1. Lundell, Anton [RFA Rights]
FLA
  1. Laughton, Scott

2024 TDL

I view this as similar to the Sandin trade last TDL. Florida gets a guy who will more likely help them win this year and next while adding a 1st rounder, Philly gets a guy who could be a legitimately high end piece for them long term if all goes right
3.
ANA
  1. Attard, Ronnie
  2. Brink, Bobby
  3. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
  4. 2025 1st round pick (PHI)

2024 Offseason

Philly unloads a big offer to try and bring in one of the more exciting young forwards in the game. Despite his size, Brink plays a bit more of the hard nosed, two-way style Verbeek tends to prefer in players. Anaheim also gets quality draft capital and a big RHD prospect who should be able to find a spot in Anaheims lineup next season

I think the Leafs would decline. Don't see them moving Niemela for anyone that isn't signed beyond this season. Principle makes sense though Walker just isn't the guy.

Why is that? Because of Torts? They have spoken before and have a good relationship.

? Based on what..? Philly is thin at LW and C and has an abundance of assets they'd be willing to move for the right player

Fair enough, I honestly thought adding Niemela might be overkill but I also feel like Walker is worth a little more than a 1st to 2nd upgrade so I wasn't sure

I don't think Attard is going to move the needle for them hell be 25 in March so he's barely a prospect anymore. Rest of the trade looks good, but probably need a better piece in there than Attard.

Does Philly have the assets Anaheim would want? Middle to late first turn into middle to bottom 6 players 3-5 years from now, and we already have an abundance of those players in our system at every position. We also have better RHD prospects than the one offered, and our GM doesn't like diminutive players like the winger offered.

So what impact piece can Philly offer to get Zegras? Who has a ceiling in the same ballpark as his? Because we're not trading him for a collection of lesser assets that might one day add up to one Trevor Zegras.

ehh I don't love nuking our draft assets as a Flyers fan. FIrst of all, I don't think we're taking on any more overpaid goalies for other teams. We already have Peterson. Second, hard pass on Zegras. As a couple beats have mentioned since his name got out, he's basically Frost with a little more dazzle...and we see how that's going with Torts. No reason to give up that much for him, IMO, or to obtain him at all.

I'd have to defer to the scouts for the Lundell trade. I'm open to it, but it's not an automatic yes.

I'd imagine if push came to shove and Philly *really* wants Zegras that one of Bonk/TK/Farabee would be on the table, having said that at a certain point I don't see why Anaheim wouldn't just take a mountain of other futures and use them to add whatever they want

For the same reason Philly didn't trade Gauthier for a collection of late 1sts. You don't win that trade, you make it because you have to.
