Greenway Lindholm

Created by: bogdown
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2024
Published: Jan. 16, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The reported ask for Guentzel is a top prospect, roster player, and a first, the usual package for the top guy on the market. If Dhaliwal is correct that Lekkerimaki or Willander would have to be in the deal for Dubas, or even a guy like Höglander, then there is no way the Canucks go through with discussions. Historically there also hasn’t been a big name winger that’s gotten close to that package, Debrincat for example got Kubalik, Sebrango, the 1st and a 4th.

A realistic package for Guentzel is definitely a first, Brztsewicz, and a guy like Kuzmenko. That to me makes a lot of sense and it’s arguably better than what Debrincat got. (Yeah sure you can argue RFA vs UFA but if Guentzel doesn’t see a long term in PIT he’s kinda in the same boat)

Other realistic targets are Duclair, Monahan, Tanev (on D), and guys like Vatrano maybe. Joel Eriksson Ek is beyond a pipe dream. Not even a consideration.
Trades

VAN
  1. Greenway, Jordan
Additional Details:
Big hockey trade here. Canucks get a big net front presence, a guy that fits the Tocchet mold. Canucks taking a risk here, Kuzmenko is the better player but Greenway fits the team better and I think there’s potential with him given Tocchet’s style. He’s two seasons removed from a +26 campaign so he has the ability to be affective in the goal differential standpoint for a defensive role. I do think the Canucks would get something back in this deal, whether that be a depth guy or a pick.

Adams is extremely stubborn. But trading Greenway doesn’t make sense this year.

Makes absolutely no sense for buffalo. We need more of what Greenway brings- defensively responsible, big, good on pk, sticks up for smaller guys like benson. We've got plenty of offense first forwards.

Myers, 2nd and 3rd for Greenway and Erik Johnson.

The cap exchange will be close.
    Erik replaces Tyler.
    VAN gets Greenway.

    Our coach loves Greenway
He’s not a guy we wanna move

And this trade makes ZERO sense for the Sabres
We already have PLENTY of offensively talented forwards
You’re offering us nothing that we NEED

you didnt explain why the sabres wouldnt trade greenway other than saying the coach loves him. that just shows the sabres are stubborn.

im not saying the should do greenway for kuzmenko, but they 100% should be listening to offers on greenway

The coach loving Greenway is enough of a reason
We don’t need to trade Greenway unless it makes us better
    This proposed trade does not
He’s valued here- no reason to move him

keeping greenway simply because the coach loves him is being too stubborn for your own good.

keeping greenway because you arent getting any decent offers on him, thats fine

declining the above trade because you like greenway more than kuzmenko, thats fne

but buffalo should 100% be listening to offers, otherwise they are being stubborn

He has value to our team
    Good locker room guy
One of our few players who add grit & toughness
    Pretty good defensively

There’s a reason the coach likes him

It’s not “stubborn” to wanna keep a player who is valuable to your team- IT’S SMART

all of that is true when youre team is good.

i have been a fan of a team that has consistently kept players that are "good locker room guys" or "add grit and toughness" while being bad. the players dont contribute to winning, and then you either lose the to free agency or they complicate your cap structure making it harder to re-sign young players or they block young players from getting promoted in the line up.

would be dumb for the sbares to not have greenway out there as an option

Except Greenway doesn’t “complicate our cap structure” OR block anyone from getting called up

Your previous situation is NOT our current one
Greenway fills a useful role here & if we moved him we’d be looking for a guy just like him to put in the lineup

Sorry VAN fan, but u aren’t getting him
Gonna have to deal with that
