I don't get that either.

Sprong has been dynamite for Detroit.

Blues have no reason to make that trade.

Hofer is 23. Reimer is 35. 🙄

just lots of filled roster spots, get a good pick to maybe flip with another player to possibly get a better player. ( a bunch of what ifs)

If a team is looking at a 3rd goalie....who can move up if necessary, Reimer would be a good pick up for some team thinking they might go on an extended playoff run.

Now the point of targeting Hofer isn’t to be a backup…

Lyon saved Florida last season.

He's saving Detroit right now.

He could be the next Timmy Thomas!

Late bloomer finds success. 😁

What I meant is you don’t target Hofer for a backup goalie. You target him to be a future starter

Yzerman did this with Husso.

How has that worked out? 😬

Besides Detroit has 2 young stud goalies in their pipeline.

Cossa and Augustine. 😁

Husso was in a much different situation. He had gotten to the point where he proved he needed to be a starter. He was going to get that value on the open market.

My main point is you aren't going to pay the price of acquiring a backup when you're targeting Hofer. He's being groomed as the future primary netminder for the Blues. There are a lot of more cost effective targets if you want to search for a backup.

Detroit isn't interested in Hofer.

The OP is.

I've given you multiple reasons why it makes no sense for Detroit to trade for him.

It's broken record speak from you.

We're done here. 🙄

I’m not commenting on need. I realize that you don’t believe Detroit needs him.

I’m speaking in general. You don’t trade for a young guy who’s a backup currently being groomed into a starter if you just need a better backup as the OP stated in the title.

Why on earth would the Blues trade a 23 year old goaltender with a .910 save percentage for a cap dump and a 3rd? The Blues could easily get a 1st and a good prospect

Hofer is miles better than any goaltender currently on the Red Wings 😂😂. Detroit would take this mock in an instant

Why on Earth are you posting nonsense?

Goalies never get that high of a return.

I didn't realize Hofer is the next Dominik Hasek.🤭

Detroit will still miss the playoffs (again). Congrats on approaching a decade without making the playoffs! Also, the Blues obviously aren’t going to give away one of the best young goaltenders in the NHL for peanuts. Not that hard to understand. Husso alone got the Blues a 3rd round pick, even though he was a pending UFA. That trade sure worked out well for Detroit!
