Fair price but Monahan isn’t really an upgrade over Suter. He’s good at faceoffs and on the PP, but he’s bad at 5v5. Would rather target Novak/Henrique

Would it make sense if Monahan is put on the fourth line and Alan gets healthy scratched?
I’m saying it as an assumption.
But I think getting Novak would make sense for Vancouver, since his contract is cheap and he plays centre.

Could see Henrique being available and he’s an option but a roster player would have to go out to fit him under the cap. Monahan at his cap with or without retention adds to the depth meaning Suter can be more effective in better marchups paired with Hoglander and Laff on the 4th line Can’t see Novak being available. He is young and valued by Nashville. Eriksson Ek is a pipe dream. Too valuable for Minnesota who are already thin at C. Middeltstadt young and valuable to Buffalo. Lindholm is a nice option but again roster player would have to be moved out and it would likely cost a 1st (Canucks willing) and a top prospect (Canucks unwilling). A sign an trade might entice them to do it but they would need Petey signed first to work out how much they have to work with cap wise.

I just don’t see why Nashville would trade a young 2C entering his prime unless they have some indication from him that he won’t sign there.

If Nashville doesn’t make it to the playoffs then they could trade him to Vancouver, for example.
But Vancouver would use him as a rental not a keeper.

If he somehow becomes available he is exactly the kind of player Canucks would try to sign to an extension given his age and profile.

Another thing to note is that Monahan has largely been deployed in the defensive zone against quality completion suppressing his 5v5 scoring. Still his 5v5 scoring is decent and double what Suter’s is.

At 5v5
Suter: 1.03 G/60, 1.29 primary P/60, 56.42 CF%, 53.57 xGF%, 2.65 xGF/60, 2.29 xGA/60

Monahan: 0.82 G/60, 1.56 primary P/60, 44.6 CF%, 43.05 xGF%, 2.58 xGF/60, 3.41 xGA/60

Monahan has been slightly more productive offensively, but Suter has been much better defensively and has much better underlying metrics

Making Suter ideal further down the depth chart where he can be deployed defensively in a match up line or offensively against a softer line. Or put Monahan with Hoglander and Kuz and have them play limited sheltered offensive minutes against weak lines

No 1st = no Monahan, there are over 5 teams reportedly looking to acquire Monahan right now. He is in high demand, therefore the price will be a 1st minimum

That’s fine too. It’s a late 1st.

I know, most contenders are late 1sts, that's why I don't understand all the whining from fans saying he isn't worth it lol

Monahan has more points with a bad team and his offensive zone start are 38 % and Suter nearly 51% ... So yes Monahan he's way more complete center than Suter but he doesn't have the same supporting cast with him... Even Kuzmenko will produce with Monahan...

Novak is young but unsteady. Henrique has a huge cap hit.

You really need to force yourself to watch Monahan play 1 game. You are totally delusional on him
