Chychrun would be a great addition to the leafs, would the leafs give up Cowan idk. To lose Minten for 3 UFA guys another that was just on waivers and a Backup goalie at that cap hit is not a good move. Sure they lose Sammy who is gone next season and Reaves who they can bury in the minors for 200k.

We'll keep Vlady then.

Tanev can come with an extension.

I think taking four years of Reaves is worth more than you do.

Duehr clearing waivers isn't a bad thing, he's not vuluable and is a toss in but you can keep him down until you want him.

Ottawa deal is probably a bit excessive but I didn't feel like arguing with them. Yall are gonna bring enough smoke.

Either stand pat, get creative or stop fishing in our pond.

Managing assets until Tavares falls off sounds smart but wasting the cores prime does not.

The value isn't bad but

A) TOR can find their own Brodie trade and get someone else to retain, no thanks on that

B) this offer definitely gets beat by multiple teams

C) you aren't really factoring in anything for the retention nor did you factor in a division rival tax

D) Ottawa is not retaining on Chychrun, its already a great contract

Basically, I don't think there's any chance in hell Ottawa moves Chychrun to Toronto

A) That's the extra assets you're looking for, cost of doing business. He will be desireable @ 50%.

B) Two 1sts and a sweetner, who's beating that? You didn't pay that with another year on the contract.

C) I absolutely did.

D) that's why you're getting so much value, however you're not well positioned to retain next year so I'll concede that point. If CGY keeps Vlady, they can afford the full load.

Two late firsts do not equal 12th overall... And Ottawa is clearly looking for a hockey trade to help them next year, Toronto just isn't a good trade fit at all and I can guarantee you Chychrun doesn't end up there.

And believe it or not they definitely could retain for next year with a bunch of cap freeing up, but I just don't see why they would need to when he's already at $4.6M

They would argue that Cowans the next coming of Crosby and I believe you're having difficulty looking past the fact that it's Toronto.

They drive me crazy too, so I can respect that.

Well it'd be like the Flames trading Hanifin last year to the Oilers for a late 1st, a future middle 6 winger, a 160lb bottom pair defenceman and a cap dump who we'd have to retain on to get like a 3rd back.

If they're getting a top quality player retained from a major rival, they need to give up something that hurts them

According to that chart, two late 1sts are worth pretty close to 12th OA. Granted, using google to cherry pick supporting arguments is lame.

Go make a trade for Cowan and watch them bleet, this very much hurts them.

I already took retention off the table. (In discussion, I didn't edit the post)

Ottawa trade is interesting to say the least, but the CGY trade contains two cap dumps and Minten, who's upside is a bottom 6 guy, isn;t enough.

While theres alot of chaff in there, greer alone might get that package based on the negative value AND the leaf need to dump those cap hits.

Duehr and Vladar have minimal, but some value, but really theres just nothing in that deal for Tanev at 50%

It'd be Knies+ or bust for me. And they won't do that. Don't see Staios being interested in much else from Toronto tbh

Leafs are in tough because they really only have 6 key tradeable assets to maintain their contender status, and improve the team at this TDL: 2 1sts over 3 drafts, Minten, Knies, Cowan and Niemala, theres a huge dropoff in their prospect pool, picks and players (liljegren is the only one who might factor in, but the year hes had, his 6th pro season, his RFA status all work against him, as well as TOR getting an improvement to replace him).

Any Leaf fan that balks at moving one of their key assets is really throwing in the towel on 23-24, and false hoping things actually change in 24-25, when they will have the same assets. Waiting for this Tavares contract to end is not an option to fix whats wrong with this team

Preaching to the choir, but I've been assured that Sammy and Minten are worth more than 50% Tanev, Greer, Duehr and Pysyk.

I don't agree with it, but it seems well agreed upon.

I agree with that, their depth is so bad, I don't trust anything not in the lineup.

Yeah, they have so many holes and so few assets they're going to have to get very creative.

They really want Tanev and I'm sick of seeing the same Robertson/Niemela/Liljegren trades.

I don't get their attachment to those two prospects, you ask them and they wouldn't trade them for McDavid.

Who cares about two kids who might not even crack the lineup? Unless they're going to make an impact immediately, trade em.
