Description
Not only is torts hockey paying off I think it’s just the team he has together that he likes. They play his style of hockey. Physical, rough, aggressive on both ends of the ice. They’re getting pucks to the net. Goaltending is reliable and not only that some of the best goaltending tandems in the league.
I also think a huge piece this season is missing Couturier as much as they have. Finally healthy and hasn’t missed a beat. I ain’t gonna lie. Everyday it seems more stupid to sell off players when they are in a convincing spot for the playoffs. I also can’t lie about how much I slept on them. When I mean slept on them, I mean I never thought of them at all. I just thought they’d be a bottom team. But when you play for Torts. You can’t be a bottom team. I thought the team was beyond saving though. But that’s just the genius of Torts. Like him or not he’s still one of the best coaches of all time and still is a good coach.

And theyll move some UFAs for good value. A top 10 prospect pool and tons of picks the next 2 yrs and the youth on the present team? 13 of those guys above on this roster are 25 yrs old or less.

As a Pens fan I don’t even wanna hear anyone talk about age. 13 above 25? I’m sorry? Dude we have 12 players over the age of 30. We’ve been having to see our team literally be the oldest team in the league for the past 2 years lol.

I think there’s a chance the Flyers plans could change as we get closer to the deadline. If they start falling out of a playoffs spot then sure start selling off those players. But currently they sit 4th in the east and 9th in the league altogether. Perhaps they could just sell off those pieces and still manage to stay afloat the rest of the season.

Unfortunately, we are not a top 10 prospect pool anymore with removal of Cutter. I think Drysdale has played enough games to be considered not a prospect.

I think with the development of guys like Bonk, Barkey, andrae, etc.... still probably top 10, alot of filler guys developing well as well, ahead of the curve (tuomaala, ginning types) and a 3 1sts and 4 2nds in the next 2 years

Everytime we have expectations for you guys, you suddenly forget how to play the game but everytime we don’t have expectations for you, you suddenly realize your potential.

The flyers are probably the biggest enigma in the game

Yeah, its tough. Unfortunately the Penguins are very much into what has happened many times before: Perenial contender and champion over a period, but then all the guys get old quick, the prospects and picks have been moved in TDL deals or not developed, because there isnt the playing time, etc.... (think NYI of the 1980s).

Unfortunately the key players are old, and while still have game, not enough to make up for a thin team. Hextall and Dubas have both made questionable moves adding more old guys to remain near the top.

To me, when they missed the pkayoffs last year, should have been the bell. Not losing zucker to acquire reilly, not acquiring karlsson, not bringing in every old 3rd/4th liner who was becoming an AHLer: Zohorna, Nieto, JOhnsson, Acciari, etc.... IMO, they should have not gotten reilly, karlsson, should have dropped carter at a loss, and then gauged how much value a malkin or a letang had. Play poulin, pustinen, play ty smith, POJ, etc....

Unfortunately I dont think they have the collective value on the market that they have in PIT, and its going to be some lean years, especially just leaning on guys in their mid/late 30s to still be the engines.

I think Pittsburgh is starting to lean towards playing the younger guys more. Look at O’Connor in the top 6 currently. We’ve had Puustinen in the past few weeks. There’s a chance we see Puljujarvi signed, Poulin called up in the coming weeks. Sure there’s injuries but these younger players are getting a chance and the more of them come in they are making a positive impact.
