Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2024

Description
Does Toronto consider this?

Only way the Rangers can do this is if it’s 50% retained, w/ Kakko and Goodrow in the deal

-Kakko can’t “Finnish”

-Schneider is overrated

-Goodrow should be euthanized

They need a point producer, end of story

I’d prefer Blackwell tbh. But he didn’t fit on the cap

For sure. I like Kakko and Schneider, as well. Still seems light, though.

Careful what you wish for lol

I appreciate your willingness to do it!!

Both team could very well need a shake up so maybe it happens and I’m a genius 😆

The problem is, with being light, they need to off set the salary and Kakko is the best way to do it. They wouldn’t trade Laf in this deal imo. It can’t be Lindgren because Schneider is already in it (who is the main piece I thought Toronto would love to have). So the options are limited. Further more Rangers wouldn’t trade anything else in this
, ie- Othmann or Perrault or even Sykora because then it’s a bad trade for them. Perhaps another pick, not a prospect

I don't understand how that is a bad trade, though. It maybe makes it not a fleece or more even, but not "bad". Winning a trade is great, and fleecing is even better, but it shouldn't be expected. Marner is a legit superstar that puts up 100+ points a season, is in his prime, and has been nominated for the Selke multiple times. I guess maybe if you are looking at this as purely a rental until the end of next season, then yeah, this should do. But I doubt TOR is gonna sell him that way while he still has term, even if only one year, and plenty of time to negotiate.

Kakko and Schneider are both interesting young players, but I don't think they are worth what you think they are. And I'm sorry, that sucks, Kakko was a 2nd overall pick, but that was a long time ago and he is a borderline bust at this point. Then you have TOR retaining 50% AND you are asking them to take on a large salary dump, with only Schneider, Kakko and a late 1st as compensation? I think this would be leaving quite a bit of value on the table for TOR up front, and it has a lot of potential to be an absolute fleece for the Rangers in hindsight.

The retention part on Torontos end is a must tho imo. For any team. Not many teams can add his full salary. Perhaps you could do 40% or something

I’ll give ya Sykora or another first rder…but not Othmann, Cuylle or Perrault. Those 3 are off limits (to me anyway) I’d even consider Shesty if the rangers could get another goalie, but that seems crazy that they’d trade him

There is no guarantee any team could keep Marner past those 1 and half seasons. Marners value isn’t as high as you think it is either🤷🏻‍♂️

Jones needs more opportunity elsewhere. He’s got skills

What are they expecting for them? Can’t be a lot

Idk about that. Real GM's know what he brings to the table. I wouldn't even consider his value debatable, but that doesn't mean other people can't have a different interpretation of his value. The fact that TOR is failing as a team and he isn't being utilized properly isn't his fault individually. If he were only a one time 100pt producer and a one time Selke candidate, I might look at things differently. But, I don't believe for a second that his record is a fluke. The dude is a superstar and he is 26 years old.

im not doubting the player, just saying that you’re not getting as much value for a year and half rental. Marner is a great player. I’m not dumb haha

This isn’t just the rangers feeling like this, just my opinion of anyone that would trade for him

At least in this one you get a lot of potential and get two players you immediately need if you trade him now, you could end up getting nothing when he walks. Unless they’re sure they could sign him. But it isn’t working with this core up there either, or roster construction

Sure. But if TOR is going to sell him as a rental, it probably won't be until next seasons trade deadline.

We’ve got Bogo playing top 4 currently lol. It’s not that their value is high, just that it doesn’t make sense to further decimate the defense in favor of left handed dmen, of which we have Brodin, Middleton, Goligoski, Merrill and in the AHL we have Hunt, Lambos, and O’Rourke.

Left defense is not exactly a pressing need.
