So nothing like paying a first to get the Flames fourth best Dman who by the way were so good they allowed four goals to the Leafs this week.
What is all this love for middling Dmen from other teams?
Like the Wing trade if only to get Reimer.

But what would be the point in trading away a first? Are those guys difference makers? Does it really change the Leafs fortunes this year?

We aren’t ever winning anything by that thinking! I’m not disagreeing by the way but when the team is in all in mode as they’ve been for the last 3 or so years, they will make trades involving a 1st more often than not.

Very fair questions but as we all know “win now” teams send away picks at the deadline every year. Often times those trades are a short term band aid. I’m sure we will make one whether or not we like it.

For sure spend a first target Larsson or Oleksiak that’s a great idea but the leafs aren’t winning anything this year we’re just gonna squeak into the playoffs and likely lose in the first round no matter what we do save the assets this year go for it next year hopefully brad has a better offseason

Spending assets this year is a mistake, fire the coach. Make Boucher the interim and sell. Move Brodie, Gio, Bertuzzi, Domi, Jones and anyone else over 28 who isn't a core member. Hell trade McCabe for some assets. Reset, find better fits in the off season and then see what you can be next year and the year after. This season is lost

Wings pass. Stevie and Bert have issues with each other and bringing him ba k is not a great idea. Will trade you Reimer but Maata is staying and do not want Bert back.
