I’ve thought SJ is the only team that may be willing to take on kuzy to get out of the Hertl contract. I think the caps should try and get Ferraro too if they’re going to try and get Hertl

Get out of the Hertl contract? I love his contract and would love to see him stay for when they're competitive again, but this is a good enough return that I would do this.

I mean it’s not a bad contract right now but it’s not going to age well and I don’t see how he really fits into the rebuild. I also could see him wanting out during the rebuild

Hertl doesn't waive his NMC, For the 2nd oldest team in the NHL. And why would the Sharks want that locker room cancer?

And Noah Hanifin isn't wasting his time, On a team that needs full rebuild once Ovechkin retires.

He'll by 35-36 in his last year and plays a style that's very sustainable. With where the cap is projected to go, he'll be making a similar % toward the cap that guys like Malkin, Latang, Zuccerello, Oshie, Giroux are making currently. Hell, Dallas has Benn and Suguin making 19.35 mil combined and are still able to have a competitive team built with great depth.

He's also talked many times that he doesn't want to leave SJ.

What is with the whole "Get out of the Hertl Contract" narrative, he is really a damn good player on who is the heart of our team. His contract is fine as the cap goes up, and sure maybe its a year too long, but who cares, we have the cap space.

Usually teams don’t keep aging players on long term contracts that don’t figure to be a part of the future. And usually veteran players don’t want to stick around for massive rebuilds. The sharks are going to be bad for at least 3-4 years.

I think we will bottom out this year and the next, but there comes a point with numerous high picks you will turn the corner, and it will be by year 4. Also hertl will only be 34 which although is not young, he will be the captain, having been through it all.

San Jose needs something to build around and have some form of culture.

I could be wrong but we shall see

Will you ever give up either of these? Being the oldest team in the league hasn't stopped players from going to Pittsburgh, and it's not going to stop people from coming to Washington. If Hertl doesn't waive, it'll be because he wants to stay in San Jose, not because another team is older. And no matter how much people want to speak it into existence, Kuznetsov is not a "locker room cancer". The guy doesn't get along well with Management but is liked within the locker room.

As for Hanifin, money talks. a 3 year rebuild won't scare someone away if the money is right, especially when the team is already moving young guys into big roles.

I don't see San Jose trading Hertl purely on the need for leadership. To me, it's seemed like they've groomed him to be the next Captain after Couture, and he's someone that can give their young guys like Eklund some much needed veteran leadership.

As for the team itself, lines seem pretty reasonable but don't think Suzdalev will be up this soon. Would be a very big jump from the WHL to NHL, I expect it'll be Sutter if anybody. Would also be surprised if the Caps let that 5 million sit there, I'd expect them to go after someone on the right wing and rotating Miroshnichenko and Milano.
