I've been on here saying he fetches a 1st. Great production for his value and we would be happy to re-sign him. Maybe its 2 2nds instead, but I bet he gets a 1st. Highest xGF% of any forward on the team.

He'd be an okay depth add, but isn't better than anything the Jets already have. They definitely should be aiming higher if they are moving the 1st.

I like the pick up but he probably costs more and if he won't extend there's no point in giving up the 2nd or more that it'd take to get Novak.

Granlund is who the Jets should be trying to get, probably doesn't cost a ton to acquire, Grier isn't the sharpest GM and Granlund has another year of term which is perfect for some of the young guys development.

Key part of this would be the fact the Nash and Winnipeg are division rivals so if Novak is on the market his price is higher if he's staying the division

Don’t know enough about him to judge… would he be a 2C?
If not, no thanks

Not gonna disagree we should've gotten more for him, but I will note that was the last trade made by Poile before Trotz was announced as his replacement

Did the Jets fleece them?

I really like Nino and he was a great acquisition(have been saying they needed to improve their depth for years!) but how much more should a half point line 2/3 winger with one year of term be worth to acquire?

I dont see how he gets a first to be honest. 21 points in 36 games and on an expiring deal does equal first round pick

Here are the reasons he gets a late 1st rounder:
1) We aren't trying to get ride of him. We can/will happily resign him if he doesn't fetch enough at the deadline. So we can set the bar high.
2) The highest xGF% of any forward on the team. His underlying numbers are really solid.
3) His production AT HIS CAP HIT. Excluding guys on ELCs, he's 6th in the league in cost per point. Find me guys on the trade block who outproduce him and making anything less than double or triple what he does. For teams who want to fill multiple needs like getting another G/D but also want to add to secondary scoring, this is a way they can do both.

Guys like him don't get dealt a lot at the deadline. It's normally more established vets, so its hard to give you a good comparable. The closest in recent years is probably Hagel. He essentially got the Hawks 2 first rounders because he had another year left on his deal too. Yea, if the Preds want the 1st rounder maybe it means we have to give up a 3rd/4th going back. But thats what Trotzy will want to trade him.

Well put. Makes sense for the preds to keep him and resign him
