Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Sýkora, Adam
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Monahan, Sean
Additional Details:
Shaping up to be a competitive market for limited rental centres. Whoever loses out on Lindholm will circle back to Monahan. Monahan is not a bad add for a contender. Veteran centre who is on pace for 60 pts, very good in the dot, responsible defensively, low cap hit. Could probably squeeze a 1st rd pick out of a desperate team, but I feel a 2nd and a B level prospect is fair value.
2.
MTL
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (MTL)
WPG
  1. Savard, David
Additional Details:
A lot of D men on the market this year. Not sure if there will be interest in Savard or not. Cheveldayoff historically hasn’t been a huge spender at deadlines, usually adds cheaper value options. I think Winnipeg could use a shutdown right shot D for their bottom pair. Savard is an experienced cup champ who blocks 5+ shots a game, kills penalties, munches minutes. Also signed for an extra year adds some insurance if Winnipeg loses Demelo in the offseason. Would be willing to take a cap dump back if needed, but Jets aren’t in LTIR, so Savard’s contract is worth around 740k prorated for the rest of the year.
3.
MTL
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Allen, Jake ($1,925,000 retained)
Additional Details:
A goalie needy team will circle back to Montreal by the deadline. Can see Edmonton adding Allen as insurance for Skinner. They have been riding Skinner pretty heavy lately, Allen could come in and take some of the load so Skinner isn’t burnt out come playoff time. Don’t think Allen is worth much more than a 3rd with retention. Also with Allen signed next year for under 2m, Edmonton can buyout Campbell and focus that money elsewhere next year.
4.
MTL
  1. 2025 6th round pick (LAK)
LAK
  1. Pearson, Tanner
Additional Details:
Not necessarily LA, not even sure if anyone would be even interested in Pearson. He’s not worth much, could be a veteran 13th forward on a contender. Injury insurance down the road. For a team not in LTIR, Pearson’s cap hit is worth around 740k prorated. I would like to see him moved out to create a roster spot for a young player like Josh Roy to play with big club for the rest of the year.

Savard has a bad contract, with another year on it, and the Jets don't have the cap space.

Savard is not a bad contract for 3.5M for 1 more year. He’s a #4. It’s a fair contract for what he brings.

Can never have enough! Sykora reminds me of Arturri Lehkonen, I’d be interested in giving him a shot. I like Hughes strategy of acquiring prospects over draft picks.

Rangers will probably hold on to Othmann, Berard, Sykora, Perreault, Fortescue. Anyone else is pretty much on the table

Prorated this year, Savard fits under the Jets cap. Next year the cap is going up over 4 million. He easily fits. If we don’t retain on Jake Allen, I would retain on Savard to get this deal done. Also said I would take back a cap dump like Stanley to help money wise if need be.

Savard has a bad contract for a bottom pairing guy, and he's not worth a high 2nd.

No interest from Winnipeg, they can't afford to get stuck with Savard's contract next year.

I’m not asking for Perreault or Othmann. I don’t think Monahan is worth a team’s best prospect. But if you’re not willing to add a b level prospect like Sykora, then a straight up 1st will be the value.

Ahh the famous Windjammer! I knew you would come! Seeing how your Jets are having a good year in the tough central division, who do you have them adding at the deadline to keep pace with Colorado and Dallas?

It's hard to say. Chevy is pretty good at finding guys that no one knew were available. He most likely adds a guy that is off everyone's radar.

The Jets have other players to extend, so they can't afford to get stuck with Savard next year.

I mean that’s fine lol Sykora is closer to NHL ready than the 2024 1st. But any Monahan trade should come with injury insurance like a 3rd coming back to NYR if he doesn’t meet requirements

Your gut feeling is absolutely right: most certainly not Los Angeles. But your analysis regarding Pearson is very well put.

Had LA as that’s where Tanner won a cup in the past. Thank you for actually reading and not just reacting like 90% of the fans on here!

It’s not like Monahan is on a 5 year deal. He’s a deadline rental. That’s the chance you take lol I’ve never seen a deadline deal have a condition like that. I think the lack of available centres on the market will out weigh Monahan’s injury past.

There’s plenty of conditions that teams use. Drury has traded conditional 2nds in back to back years so that’s what he’ll likely do again

There are only 3 defensemen in whole league who are on a UFA contract who play more than Savard (TOI per game)
He’s 3rd in whole league in blocks per 60.

I’m not saying he will get a 1st round pick or that he’s this amazing player. But his contract is not bad for what he brings.

I could see a team sending a 2nd round pick for him. Would likely be a pick around 45-60. Acquiring team gets 2 playoff runs.

Savard isn't an upcoming UFA that's what hurts his value. You're saddled with his contact for another year if you add him.

Yea but it’s term on a good contract. That’s good lol
Term is only bad when it’s on a bad contract.

Right, but in this case we are talking about a bad contract. $3.5 mil on an average 5/6 D, is a bad contract.

Savard is not a 5-6. He’s a 4.

3rd most in blocks per 60. Logs a ton of ice time.
Kills penalties. Has won before.

3.5M for that is not bad. It’s not a bargain but it certainly not bad. Who could you sign in the summer for 3.5M on a 1 year deal that’s better than that

He might be a 4 on a bad team, but not on a playoff team.

He isn't an upgrade on Morrissey, DeMelo, Dillon, Pionk, Samberg or Schmidt.
