You're giving up Cowan and a 1st round pick, for Mike Matheson and a rental Sean Monahan... Okay then.

Yes because MM is a stud on D with 3 years left at a good AAV. Monaghan is a good rental and could probably resign him if he is willing to stay in the 3M range

Monahan for a first and a fifth is fair, not sure if I would do Cowan for Matheson tho (and I’m a big Cowan fan)

Brodie has negative value to Montreal, Monahan is worth a first, and Matheson is worth a lot more than that. If anything, Toronto seriously lacking in this trade proposal.

Brodie is there for cap reasons. He is a UFA at the end of the year. Rumour is he (Monaghan)is worth a 2nd because he is a rental. I threw in a 1st because Matheson is worth more than just Cowan and a 5th. IMO

I think Monaghan is worth a 2nd but made it a 1st to add on to Cowan and the 5th for Matheson

Monahan has a near 60 pts pace on a 2m comtract. He is also good defensively. There is also a lot of competition to get him. A first is the starting price, and it will probably be a bit higher

I think he is great player as well but I think on most of the contending teams he would be going to, he will be a 3rd line player. And with him being a rental, I don’t see teams giving up a 1st IMO

I personally wouldn't give up Cowan. Our prospect pool is very limited, and Cowan is looking great

Yes but offence isn’t our worry. Our defence pool is very weak and acquiring an arguably top 2/3 guy with term at a good AAV could help make us more well rounded and a contender with our cap issues.

I need what ever you guys are smoking

Monahan is worth a 3rd round pick. he is a 3rd line rental who a year ago Calgary had to pay a 1st to get rid of.

A first is normally the price for third liner. Here is some comp for the monahan trade :
Copp (most accurate one)
Barbashev
Pageau
O’Reilly (least accurate one)
Domi (worst one for us. But the context is different and Domi is a known playoffs ghost)

Irrelevant.

Regardless of needs, having a player make an immediate impact on an elc contract is much more valuable than anything an average 2nd pairing defenceman could bring. Besides, we can find a much better defencman in this years free agency instead of needlessly giving away our organizations best (and only elite) prospect.

He is not good defensively and gets a lot of PP points he won't get in TO

Dealfinder is just a troll, he knows this is awful for TO and that's the point. He panders to homers from other teams and insults all leaf fans who point out how bad his crap is.

He is good defensively this year…

And he would be 5th in Toronto for 5v5 pts

He is in fact not good defensively. His advance stats make that very clear

Those cards are often dubious. Some guys rank super great on his stuff but you look at other models and the eye test and it's clear they certainly don't look as good. I haven't seen his fresh card, mainly because I am not a fan of his methodology

Which one is making an immediate impact? After watching WJC, I think we should all be worried. We could shop in FA but don’t think we will find a top 2/3 D for 3 years under 5M? I understand they need their ELC’s but I don’t see Cowan and Minten both making this team together for at least a few years. If we have to give one up to get a quality D man with term at a good AAV so that we are not wasting all Matthews prime years, so be it.
Nylander fan, really?? You definitely made a good point for sure but then I realize you’re a Nylander fan and all your credit is lost. This guy is now a more expensive Huberdeau for the next 8 years. One of the worst signings in my 30+ years as a Leafs fan. Paying no heart, selfish, one dimensional players like this, means we won’t be winning a Cup anytime soon.

True that those aren’t always accurate, but paired with normal stats and the eye test, it’s a good tool. For the eye test, Monahan is good defensively, so I think it’s fair to rely on this card
