while i agree TOR should be after both those guys (Treliving got klingberg for offense from blueline), I think you've found the "rub". Without CGY taking back some kind of a dump or a monied player, it doesn;t work and you'd probably have to add a bit for them to do so.

Say without it being a dump of something CGY doesn;t want, mabe liljegren or benoit. If its something just to make it work cap wise, Samsonov or Brodie, but then it lessens the offer CGY is getting. Or TOPR has to part with a few 3rds or 5ths for a 3rd party to take some retention.

this isnt anything like what tampa/aves did. They never traded anything close to that much for pending ufas or guys looking to get paid. You get that sort of value for contract control

So a team that is cap strapped trade their only 2 ELC players that can make the team next season and make an impact. Hanifin isn't re-signing in Toronto and Tanev is almost 35yrs old. So they will get rid of grandpa Gio to possibly sign injury prone old-timer Tanev.

I'm doubt Flames get more than a 1st + Cowen level prospect for Hanifin.

Flames will look to sell them separately and Toronto wouldn't make this trade anyways with where they sit in the standings
