New Lines New Goalie

Description
Don't think it makes too much sense to go all out for a goalie. Find someone that might get hot and make a playoff push. Too many goalies with term that might be too much risk.

A full NMC goalie with bad numbers this year and a very real and hefty salary that basically no other buyer in the league would/could take on.

We’d be doing Minnesota a favour in clearing space for Wallstedt. I’d take him if he’d waive to us, but for free, not for a 3rd.

For sure. The NMC will lessen any return. I was considering a 4th.

I would expect it to be a “pick your destination and if they’ll take you we’ll send you there out of respect” situation.

future considerations imo.

It clears up cap space for Minnesota, a space for Wallstedt (because they can’t send fleury down), and does right by him.

NJD gets a potentially viable goalie without giving up assets.

Realistically who else is paying for a 3.5 mill 40 year old with bad numbers and that he’d agree to waive for.

Another factor: right now they are forced to use LTIR.

Shipping out fleury means they wouldn't need LTIR and would avoid Rossi's bonuses counting on next year's salary cap

Even if 2024 MAF were not the same as prime MAF, he is someone players play confidently in front of.

Would be interesting move to consider

I think it would be a move for FC tho if Fleury would waive.

Right now Fleury costs 3.5 million dollars on their cap for bad goalie play. They can't send him down because of his NMC. He is both blocking Wallstedt and forcing Minnesota to use LTIR and eat overages for next year on Rossi's bonuses.

Who else has the cap space and the need and that MAF would waive for.

Carolina is the only team that comes to mind, depending on Freddie Anderson

Apparently Freddie is almost back according to the Carolina fans I’ve talked to. Certainly not gone until the playoffs.

If arvidsson is done for the year maybe LAK but they might prefer to use the space another way.

I don’t know what the highest bid would be on Fleury, but imo Minnesota would be best served sending him out regardless.

And I feel like once you get to a 3rd you start approaching the guys who’ve had much better seasons like 50% retained Allen, Nedjelkovic, etc etc yknow?

What do you mean "clearing space for Wallstedt"? We have no intention of playing him in the NHL this year. The plan has always been to keep him in Iowa this season. Fleury playing out the last year of his contract doesn't block Wallstedt at all. Actually, moving out Fleury means we need to bring in another backup to allow us to stick to our plan with Wallstedt.
