I like the first trade but don't love the second. I'd rather keep Girard over Drouin.

Kudos for something outside the box though.

Why would the habs give up the two most valuable players in the trade downgrade a 4th tp a 5th and eat another year of johansens deal for a 2nd?

As a Habs fan, I don't think that Evans and Kovacevic have much value that we can think.

A 4th round pick for Kovacevic can be a maximum price, especially because he was healty scratch multiple times this season.

For Evans, only a 3rd round pick for a 4th line centerman can be a great price for him.

Something that I can change is put out the 4th round pick and add a 6th round pick.

But receiving a 2nd round pick for Evans and Kovacevic, and taking a guess with Johansen, i'm really open with that because we likely gonna need a deep center line for the next season.

In my opinion :

Suzuki : C1
Dach : C2
Newhook : BIG mistake to play him at C. He is WAY better as a LW
Dvorack : likely gonna be buyout or being traded away....
Evans : Better fit with Colorado than Johansen.

Also, I see Montreal searching for another 3C. Maybe a Sean Monahan come back or maybe try with a player like Kuznetsov (who is likely another cap dump....).

So, my idea about our centermans line for the next season :

C1 : Suzuki
C2 : Dach
C3 : Kuznetsov / Monahan
C4 : Johansen

Which one of this C's play on the PK ?

Im the first one on this website who came up with the evans for RJ, and getting a 2nd in return for the cap hit is more than fair, packaging Kovacevic at a lost as part of he deal is pointless from the habs point of view in its actually bad asset management

Suzuki, Dach and Johansen all can playing on the PK....... Also, Kuznetsov have played on the PK few times I belive.

About the RJ and Evans trade, I haved also the same type of idea, but I remember that your trade proposition was realistic, but maybe not enough to convice Avs fans....

That’s one expensive bottom six. Why exactly wouldn’t we just keep Evans over trading him for a $4 million 4c?

He fits well. If Landeskog can't return, then I think they keep him. It seems like Landy is coming back though, which means no Lindholm and a choice between Drouin, one of Manson/Girard, and perhaps some other UFA.

And if I'm forced to get rid of someone in that scenario, it would be Drouin, Manson, and lastly Girard.

For 2 reasons.

1st reason : Montreal will likely gonna try to trade Evans, but they know that they will not gonna receive more than a 3rd round pick. But, a team like the Avs, who have somes massives issues about their centermans (especially for their 2nd and 4th line), Evans can be a great pick up for them. Also, Johansen didn't really make the job with the Avs and he take a lot on their cap space. So, Montreal can take the opportunity to searching a 2026 2nd round pick (who is a great pick for a trade for futhermore playoffs assets) and taking a guess with Johansen. Also, that's can open few millions to the Avs for signing a real 2nd line centerman (like Lindholm).

2nd reason : Personally, even that I love Evans, I think Johansen can have the same type of impact than Monahan (but maybe not at the same level), and he is a player who can more contribute on the points sheet than Evans. Also, Montreal have the cap space for Johansen and Evans is a player who will gonna fit more in the Avs system (like Lehkonen).

But why trade Evans at all? I’m down with MTL taking Ryjo for a price, I just see no reason to trade Evans. I actually like Ryjo or Faksa as targets at the TDL. The Avs and Stars are both cap strapped contenders that Montreal could take advantage of and get some center depth to get us through the rest of this season. Then there is the possibility of returning an asset next TDL through retaining on either one.
