laugh We're not trading Jonatan Berggren for picks only, he only gets moved in a package deal for a Top 4 LHD/RHD and since Chychrun more than likely won't be involved you have nothing to offer us.

Yeah Bergy would only be traded in a Chychrun deal.

And that's probably not happening. 😁

I'd be amazed if the Red Wings would offer the best deal for Chychrun, tbh. I'd rather pickup Hanifan.

What do the Sens need? They're pretty much in the same boat as us, Both have a strong LHD core i'd include William Wallinger while he is a left handed shot he's played his entire career on the right side.

Honestly, I'd just want good value regardless of what position they play.

Berggren should definitely be in the trade.

Doesn't really matter which team it is, any team that can pay a 1st is good to me.

I see Brannstrom shipped to the caps pretty frequently by Sens fans but I don’t think he’s a piece that would even interest the caps. There’s been no connection and the caps have a lot of defensemen clogging up the blue line as is. I’d rather ship out Jensen for a mid round pick. Also that retention would be far more than this team would be willing to do for that term.

First, I only put this trade in my ACGM because I saw at least two Caps fans suggest the exact same trade.

Second, you either pay $4 million for Nick Jensen or $4 million (2 for salary, 2 Jensen retention) for Erik Brannstrom, the retention doesn't make you lose any money.

Third, you have too many RHDs so adding a 3LD could be helpful, plus Brannstrom is a lot younger than Jensen and is cost-controlled.

We have plenty of LHD too, the whole blue line is clogged. In terms of value, I think the trade is generally fine, but 2.5 years of 2M retention is not palatable to a team that rightly or wrongly sees itself as competitive in that window. If there was no retention, I'd be fine with it. Since Brannstrom plays both sides according to CF, it would be fine to add him and see if he can grow into a middle pair defenseman at the cost of Jensen. If we're looking strictly at Jensen versus Brannstrom, I'd rather have Jensen, so with a money in money out type of trade like this, I'd rather just not do it. That's just me.

The thing is with the way Jensen has been playing this year he's not worth his current contract, so you'd have to pay us to take on the extra money.

Over the course of the entire season yes I agree. He’s been better lately. If the caps can’t get someone to pay for him, they should really just hold onto him. It’s not a boat anchor contract at this point and the caps aren’t strapped for money so they’re better off holding. I think I’d rather they move TVR and hold Jensen but we’ll see what happens.

Speaking of which, what would it cost for Ottawa to acquire Trevor van Riemsdyk?

I don’t understand the fascination with Chychrun. Isn’t the strongest in his own end and when was the last time he wasn’t injured? For Detroit, Walman and Edvinsson will be holding that top 4 LD. If you want to replace Walman than Hanifan would be a much better target. Long term, a RHD that is solid in their own end would be the ideal target.

Berggren was supposedly not available in the DBC trade.

    Deal lol.

Honestly I wouldn't be entirely against trading for TVR and Jensen at the same time, one stop shopping.
