Canes didn't want Samsonov the first time he was on waivers. With Freddie coming back, why would they want him now? You're stuck with him

No interest in abruzzese, we have half a dozen similar prospects. Make it Kokkonen and I'll say it's a deal. Still think another team will offer more though.

And most other Flames fans won't agree with me,but that's probably a fair deal for Hanifan.

I don't think any team will pick Samsonov up off waivers given he cleared before, so presumably you now have a cap problem (about 2.5M over, 1M if you run a 20 man roster).

I think the best package the flames will find for hanifin and tanev at this point will come for the leafs. If you look at the landscape of potential contenders who need to add true top 4 D men more than the leafs there there's almost no comparable IMO (Maybe the jets or the lightning?).

Very different from the amount of contenders looking to upgrade at center or forward. Canucks and jets have already done so, paying premiere assets to get ahead of the pack. Bruins, Vegas (with eichel out), Colorado, rangers, are all legitimate contenders who are largely set at D and have a huge need down the middle. Canes and devils are set on the backend, canes in particular could use a center.

Leafs should be willing to outbid any team for defensive help at this point.

I've said it in other posts, but I think Dallas has a big need for a top 4 RD and the draft capital and prospects to make the best offer for Tanev. Where Hanifan ends up I have no idea.

I'd argue that the stars have bigger needs upfront, but my point is not that the leafs won't have other challengers. Of those, I'd expect tampa to be the most obvious.

I'm also not arguing that the leafs are going to get these players for scraps. I just feel that of the potential suitors for both the leafs would be the most in need of their services at this moment, and this most likely to resign both compared to other potential suitors.

I think a trade for hanifin + tanifin that saw the leafs sending their 1st, liljegren, abrussezze, a 3rd plus a tverberg level of prospect, would be a fair trade for the flames, or at least a reasonable starting point.

Kudos for trying to be fair. If anything I definitely think hanifin will go for much less, but good on you for being reasonable. I think the leafs should absolutely be looking to acquire both!
