Upper End Of Extensions

Created by: Celtics21
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2024
Published: Feb. 9, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Even if you need to give the high end of contracts to Swayman, DeBrusk, and Hanifin; you can still likely get to 23 man roster and keep Ullmark. I believe some team will offer a #1 to get Ullmark in the door, but including him on the roster in case they get lowballed

Agreed - and they would still have the cap flexibility to extend Frederic, Lohrei, Beecher, Poitras, etc.

I think team gives a little more term to Heinen

Hanifin isn't worth as much unless he takes a step. Running with a $96K in cap space will become a problem after few injuries. Bussi is there and they need to improve up front so moving Ullmark (who will be 31yo and UFA next year) is the thing to do.

just dont see any real need for hanifin long term. hes what lohrei is supposed to be. i would rather add another legit top 6er for that price.

Disagree. Lohrei is the perfect #3 D who develops into something more. If he develops, then you figure out what to do as he gets closer to FA

I think the high end on a swayman deal if he really plays hardball is 7.5-8

My guess is that’s a trade off between length of contract and dollar figure. I’ll be curious to see what he does. I think it is going to be in the 6.5 range, but for a long time

Again its the long term factor. I dont care if hanifin is here for 3 years but 7? No thank you.

If you acquire someone under the age of 30 via free agency or in the last year of their contract before free agency, you are paying more in years or you are losing that player whether they play for your team or not.

The exceptions is if it is a conscious choice by the player to be in a better position to leverage a longer, bigger contract because they think the CBA is going up (see Auston Matthews)
