A 1st is a good offer, but it does leave a hole in CGY’s lineup

Flames may prefer a deal where they get a lesser RD or Prospect back at the same time

CGY making all these moves pretty much means they've accepted this season is basically over. Wouldn't this be a good time to get some rookies some NHL time?

We’re far from done or giving up on the season, we’re currently playing very well and are back in the playoff race

The moves are to ensure we don’t have another Johnny Gaudreau situation, so if Hanifin & Tanev won’t extend, we’ll turn them in to assets and either get replacement players back OR make Trades elsewhere to replace them. IOW - We’re not letting them walk for nothing

We’ve been giving several of our Prospects opportunities to play all season, but also don’t have an RD to replace Tanev other than Mark Pysyk and Brady Lyle who are Depth pieces more than Future Pieces

I have to think if you move Tanev, Hanifin and Markstrom, you're packing it in.

They’re Great Pieces, but it’s better Asset Management to move them instead of losing them for nothing at the end of the season

Trading Elias Lindholm for Kuzmenko is going to actually work out better for us than had we kept him, so we just need to do the same with Hanifin & Tanev

When it comes to Goaltending, Markstrom is Hot again right now, so selling high on him makes sense, especially given we have Vladar & Wolf who have both shown they can play as well. All we’d need is for one of them to get hot and then ride them the rest of the way

If we could move Hanifin to PIT for a 1st + Ryan Graves + ? for example, we’d still be competitive, I just don’t know whether Hanifin would commit to PIT long-term, which is probably required to complete a deal like that

I see where you're coming from, but I just don't see things panning out that way. From an outsider perspective they'd be calling this season a wrap and reevaluating for next. With all due respect, while I don't know much about Wolf, Vladar isn't getting you guys into the playoffs. I know CGY fans on here are high on him, but he's just not good and I'm not saying that to a dick.

I don't think you guys are done or anything, but when you move all those players, especially when most of the rest will be for futures, you're depleting your team a bit in the idea you will retool this team in the off-season.

Great convo on this idea! I enjoyed reading everyones input. It looks to me like the Flames are going to move Tanev & Hanifin (if he doesnt resign) for younger players/picks.
If the Flames can get a first for Tanev, I think ya got yo do it...
....and sooner rather than later. Because each game Tanev plays, you risk having him go down with an injury. The dudes loves to stops pucks with his face 😬

Yeah, you & I have had it out over Vladar before, so I won’t argue that his stats are 💩 but we still believe in him here in CGY and can’t wait to see Wolf more. Wolf has conquered the AHL and has nothing more to accomplish or prove there

We’ve been playing much better and with greater energy the more we bring in new faces, whether via Trade (Sharangovich & Kuzmenko), Call-Ups (Zary & Pospisil), Waiver Pick-Ups (Greer & Pachal) and Kylington returning

We just need to rid ourselves of the guys who no longer want to be/stay in CGY and replace them with guys who do

That said, none of us believe we’re contenders by any means, but a Hot Goalie and entering the Playoffs on a role and staying Healthy is sometimes all it takes. It’s got us to the Finals before
