Description

Samsonov is a cap dump, cost 2 5ths, so its Laughton at 50% for a 1st THREE drafts away and Hirvonen.
Hanifan is the offensive blueliner we need, with a resign in place (if he changes his mind about staying in Canada), cost more than Tanev.

Laughton here for 3 yrs at 1.5mil, (Let Bertuzzi walk, Knies up to 1LW, resign Domi and move to 3RW and promote either Cowan or Minten to 3C, Jarnkrot or Robertson to 3LW)
Hanifan brought in and resigned, seems like better long term need offensively than Tanev or Walker (let Brodie expire, elevate McCabe to 2RD, resign Benoit, and promote Niemala to 3RD)

Not a good enough return on Hanifin and he wouldn't ever re-sign with the Leafs so i'm not sure why you guys want him.

Maybe. Obviously there'd have to be a resign in place for Hanifan for TOR to do it.

As far as the return, its in the range, but I am basing it on the present seeding, so that the 2024 TOR pick is around 20th overall and the NYI pick is 75th or so. I dont think any TDL buyers will have much higher in the round picks. And it comes down to how you see Voit. Hes been injured this year, but finished his OHL with 80 pts and 105 pts, so hes probably worth a 3rd in trade. Maybe a bit more added, but those picks in 2024 are solid, and alot of this years buyers dont have a full compliment of picks.

Well Samsonov isn't a cap dump. He's the best Leaf goalie now.
Don't know how Laughton or even Hanifan really make a difference in the Leafs fortunes this year. Seems like just a waste of picks.

This team should sell at the deadline. Bert, Domi, Brodie, Jarnkrok,Sammy and Gio should all be gone. Only get picks for them with retention and use them in the off season to make some additions. This mind set of must go all in at the deadline has proven useless.

I tend to agree about being sellers, though the Leafs kinda made their bed by resigning Nylander for 11.5m X 8. If they don't want to go the sell route, certainly "buy" route, would be a waste of future assets. 95% of the time, it's waste for the team to be buyers at TDL, and in the Leafs case it's been more like 100% useless being buyers.
