I don't hate this, would probably try to haggle on some of the draft capital because the Canes don't do high picks on rentals - even though Ferraro has term. Don't hate it though.

Pretty sure Kahkonen gets a bit less, especially without retention. Hill would probably be the comparable for him, so the Sharks are probably looking closer to a 4th round pick for Kahkonen. Aside from that, Duclair would need to step up his offensive production to really be worth moving a 2nd for. Value is probably closer to a 3rd, but I would move a 2nd if he were to breach that .5PPG mark, at the very least get a bit closer to that mark. That being said, value isn’t too far off, and more just minor nitpicking.

The second rounders are mainly because of the retention on Duclair and the fact that we would need SJ to take Raanta and TDA for us to fit under the cap. If we didn't need retention or for them to take two cap dumps then yeah I would probably throw two thirds their way for Duclair and KK and call it a day. Pretty sure the Hill trade was done in the offseason so I think KK would be slightly more than him since it's the trade deadline but otherwise yeah I agree.

I really like this trade for both sides. I think Ferraro is a natural target for the Canes given his remaining term and the many defensive FAs they have coming up. And I’ve been a proponent of Duclair + KK to Carolina for a minute, so I like that part. The 2nd for Duclair seems a bit rich, I think a 3rd is more likely but honestly that’s just splitting hairs.
