In no universe is Smith getting retained for $2.5m over the next two seasons. Not for that return. It makes zero sense.

I’d rather have Sissins of the two. Novak is not good at faceoffs, is barely outproducing Sissins at 5v5, gets 80% of his starts in the offensive zone, and is a UFA after this season. The only thing he has on Sissons is that he’s three-and-a-half years younger.

I’m indifferent to the deal, but Smith only has one year left, not two.

It looks like Sissons plays 2nd line which usually means better linemates whereas Novak is 3rd line. Dating back to last year, Novak has 7 more 5v5 points in 42 less games than Sissons

I mean Chytil wasn’t good at faceoffs either lol and we’ve seen Lavi put trocheck on the ice for faceoff and he gets off.

Two meaning this year and next year. He's not a pure rental. If he were, then Dubas would be much more willing to retain. But not another year of $2.5m in dead money. PIT already has retention with Petry. Not happening this year with Smith for a mere 2nd and a 4th. Dubas should just keep him over that much dead money. Maybe next deadline I could see it.

If NSH can get a 1st for Sissons, they should do it.

Sissons plays mostly with a combination of Trenin, Smith, Parssinen, Gurianov, and Sherwood. Most commonly Trenin - Sissons - Smith.

Novak plays mostly with a combination of Evangelista, Sherwood, Smith, and Parssinen. Most commonly Sherwood - Novak - Evangelista.

As a Preds fan to add context. Sissons plays a shutdown role most of the time taking D zone faceoffs and tough minutes against tops lines. Novak does get sheltered a bit with O zone faceoffs but also plays with guys who are usually younger. But the lines have been in a blender all season. They play totally different games. Sissons is a do it all guy; kills penalties, can play on the PP, faceoff guy, and locker room leader. Novak is more of an offensive guy who really hasn't been in the best environment to grow, but is still putting up solid numbers and improving. I really think Trotz tries his best to resign him this year, as he is exactly what Nashville needs.

That being said I think Nashville would want a first and a prospect for Sissons, so this trade is close and I'd probably just swap the fourth for a C prospect

I think the rangers would prefer the better offensive 5v5 center. Kakko and cuylle are good defensively, so they need that offensive spark

Rangers 4th line is their “shutdown” line. Or at least attempts to play defense lol

Interesting ideas here. I think you have to add for Smith, though. We have a good amount of LW/C prospects that should get it done.

Sisson 2 more years @2.9m is not appealing, same with Novak really and they're certainly not worth a 1st. Prefer Trenin

Smith trade is fair. If you have a good amount of LW/C prospects I would prefer one or two of them instead of multiple picks
