Is Fitzgerald using LTIR until the playoffs to make it cap compliant?

If Flames are trading our 2 best tradeable assets and not getting one of Mercer or Holtz than Conroy would not be well thought of. This is a EA NHL 24 trade where you just keep adding a piece to get the value close. We need an elite piece back

It would be close if you exchanged the 26 2nd for 26 1st , and that's a deal for the amount of retention

No Holtz, Casey, or Mercer means the Flames pretty easily pass.

“Elite” as in Hughes, Hischier, Hughes, Bratt or Nemec?

Or

“Elite” as in Holtz or #15 overall pick?

Craig Conroy isn't retaining on Jacob Markstrom for 2.25 years. Friedman already said that he's not retaining period.

I don't mind Bahl, over 17 min. per game, towering D and +3 on that team is someone who could have upside,
Clarke is getting 3/4 of a point per game in Utica= good upside but 2 mil. for the remainder of Markstrom's contract needs at least 2 firsts +

We’ll go call someone else for the retention then bc it’s a pretty set in stone market

Generally, there is enough history on retention costs where one could do the math. Roughly $5-6m = 1st, $4-5m = 2nd, 3-4m = 3rd…and so forth. There are plenty of caveats (where the picks are, how many years, etc).

Two 1sts for $6m over three years is too much. Maybe one 1st, maybe two later picks.

Just what how a normal market would price cap space. Conway can ask for whatever he wants to.

A few people have said that CGY is not retaining on any contracts. Friedman, others, have also said Markstrom-to-NJD is dead.

An elite piece would be awesome but just a good piece like Mercer would be fine.

That was a while ago. There have been plenty of reports since then stating offers have been improved. Trades get dropped and revisited all the time. It’s a negotiation tactic.

Yeah NJD looked at the 0.950 goaltending they’ve got in the last 4 games and thought, “god we really need to get a goalie”

Yeah like elite prospect. To the Flames Mercer or Holtz would be elite. We never get guys like that. So my definition would be elite as likely to be a first line player. And in Calgary our first line guys are not the same as championship teams. Good pieces are 2nd to 3rd line potential. Thats just my opinion.

Yeah. Because 4 games makes a season. Great teams have consistency. Flames looked like a cup contending team on our recent road trip. Then we lost to the Rangers and got embarrassed by the Sharks. Don’t be fooled by runs.

You’re right I shouldn’t trust goalie play to be sustainable. So why goa dyer the 34 year old having a career year. Nowhere to go but down.

Vanacek and daws have a +ve GSAx since the start of December.

But your claim was that “the devils have suddenly came back and improved their offer”

So according to this chain of events:

NJD-Calgary have deal in place:
NJD backs away:
NJD goaltending plays fantastic
NJD comes back and significantly increases their offer?

I struggle to see any logic in that.

Where are these reports saying NJD increased their offer?

We’re pretty happy with Markstrom. He’s kept us in the playoff conversation just on his own. So if you think Markstrom is a downgrade to what you have then I’m sure you’re right. lol. The NHL insiders have no idea what they’re talking about. Or Craig Button and Marty Biron. What would they know about goalies in the NHL. Right. You know you’re doing.

There was a lot of people saying that Holtz had been offered. I don't think Mercer is as much as an option.

I watched the biron clip. He said he thinks Markstrom would be a perfect fit and he thinks NJD Should go after him.

Button again said he thinks NJD should.

I’m still waiting on these sources saying NJD came back to the table and upped their offer?

The chain of events as I’ve interpreted them are

NJD had a deal on the table. Calgary tried to shop it around to other teams.
NJD walked away from the table.
NJD got excellent goaltending since
Discussions have resumed.

In that time Saros has become more available and Kent Hughes has publicly stated how hard it is to find a buyer on a goalie

Again if you can provide sources on any evidence to the contrary of these I’m happy to hear it.

But based on that, seems only logical that it would have been conroy coming back to the table after being unable to find other suitors.
