Leafs survived fine getting Martin Jones games and the worst goaltending in the league in samsonov for a few months. Minten deserved to make the team this year.

Benoit and his zero offence does not get more. Liljegren only gets more if a longer deal. Wouldn't shock me if gets less for 1 year so tavares deal over before big extension.

Jones and Samsonov at least have NHL experience though, they’re not great but better than throwing Hildeby to the wolves. Minten did not deserve to make the team, or he would’ve. He’s okay and will likely make it in a couple years but again, prospects need time and rushing them to the NHL is a disservice to them and the team. Not many make the leap from JR to NHL for a reason, it’s a huge jump.

I agree - too much $ for Hanifin (we’re not going to pay him the same as Reilly 🤦🏻) & way too much $ & term for Pesce who is vastly overrated on this site - maybe 4x$5 would be most I’d pay him.

Just to add, I would happy with about 11m on LHD next season, Reilly, McCabe, Benoit. Timmins, Liljegren at about 4m, A veteran "spare" for 2m. Another veteran at 2m. Then a good RHD an about 6m. That's 25m for eight Dman.
As I have a said before, on this site, The Leafs have same GAA as the Flame, but somehow the top four for Flames Dmen seem to garner Norris Dman returns in a trade.

Agree 100%. This site - including some Leaf fans unfortunately- loves to downgrade Leaf players while pumping up mid players on mid to bad teams. Leafs could use a dman, preferably RHD but pretty much all teams could use something. Tanev not worth a 1st so if that’s the price, Tre should move on . Time of year when fans of bottom dwelling teams start overrating their own pending UFAs; can’t wait for TDL to pass so we can focus on playoff races & matchups.

I just see how anyone one (or two) rentals are going to help the Leafs fortunes this season. Leafs have so little prospects, they shouldn't be trading any. Next season with Brodie/Klingberg/Giordano off the books...that's 10m. Benoit and Liljegren get raises....3.5m. So that Leafs about 8m for one good Dman and one other. That would seven NHL Dman. Plus some AHL call ups that could fill.

Yes but you also have Minten and Cowan on the team making less than 1m which likely won’t happen. 3rd liners cost between 2/3m each, not to mention mcmann in the top 6. Realistically though they sign 1 Dman and not 2 and have the money to cover the rest of the depth anyway

Fair enough, but not getting legitimate top 4 d ufas without paying market price. Hanifin is getting 7x7 minimum. Pesce is vastly undervalued by many bc of how good his team is defensively.

Agree to disagree; Pesce is overrated exactly b/c of what you wrote - Canes are a system (aka boring imo) team . Most of their guys would not be as good on another team. If Hanifin gets 7x$7 the some other team can pay him. Our top R 4 has two LHD already; if Hanifin were RHD - maybe
