Description
Line up is cap compliant but I’m gonna go for Game 1 of playoffs and put the Viking back into the lineup. After new video of his skating and rumors floating behind the scenes. Starting to look like Landy may actually make it back for the playoffs. If you are fan of another team. Pray, pray he isn’t till next year. This team with Big Val and Landy back in the lineup is a totally different animal. Put him on 4th line as Center, just for faceoff sake. Think Kovalenko is gonna get run at C when he gets here and frankly the switch seems to be natural for him in the KHL. Gives him the line fixer and vet in Landy and Parise to insulate him. Can’t think of better scenario for a young kid who nobody can doubt the effort level but may struggle at times with transition to big league. Surrounding him with those two would be a devastating 4th line.
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Dowd, Nic ($500,000 retained)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Olofsson, Fredrik
  2. 2024 1st round pick (COL)
2.
SJS
  1. Johansen, Ryan
  2. Meyers, Ben
  3. 2024 5th round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
RyJo good for young team with no expectations. Still has skill and great locker room guy but can’t keep up with our style of play. Meyers has 3 or 4 C potential and just needs chance to get play time in NHL. Pick on top to hopefully help facilitate this.
3.
COL
  1. Johnson, Erik ($1,600,000 retained)
BUF
  1. Jones, Caleb
  2. 2024 4th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
This just screams CMAC Sakic Trade. Bring back our guy, great locker room presence, gives Bo a guy he’s comfortable playing next to, depth to D, slots him back to his strong side LHD and gives Bednar the L - R 6 he likes to have.

The EJ trade is the likeliest of the three imo though I'd argue that's an overpay. Dowd isn't worth a first and is in no way close to a 2C and I'd be very surprised if the Avs did that. Kahkonen is probably a 4th plus a tendy prospect in value so if you say that's the equivalent to 5th & Meyers then SJ is taking RyJo for free effectively and I think they'll want something at least for taking on the cap hit.

Definitely interesting. I think I'd make that trade for Dowd, but I'd prefer to keep Freddy around.

I know Dowd isn't worth a first but he probably gets one anyway. Agree with everything else here tho

Yeah I'm saying the Avs shouldn't pay it (tbf nobody should but somebody probably will lol) more than anything and he especially isn't an answer at 2C.

Dowd’s not a 2c Colton has almost double his points and even though RyJo has sucked he has more points than Dowd. Just sayin

Dowd is more of a 3C but Bedsy isn’t breaking up the Wood Colt45 LOC line when healthy. So, what is dowd good at? Faceoff, effort, defensively he’s great, great size. Thus you insulate him with Mikko and raise his floor. The contract is worth the 1st alone for us. 800K 1.3M which ever and he has another year. Gives you 3Cs next year guaranteed. Is his talent level worth that? No but that’s not how the deadline works. Market is already weak at C and we’re desperate. We also pay an Avs tax cause teams won’t get screwed by CMAC and Sakic anymore. EJs gonna be back we know they bringing the condor back. As for the RyJo trade whether I put more or less somebody has something to say. Not sure what they do but SJ or Chi seems to be most likely.
