    So the Oilers are paying a 2nd for Evans and the Habs to pick up some retention on Guentzel?

    3 way trade.

    Pittsburgh send Gentzel to Montreal (they retain 3M), they receive the massives assets from Edmonton, and Montreal send Gentzel (with a 1,5M retention) + Evans to Edmonton.

    Montreal can receive a 5th round pick from Pittsburgh.

    The cap hit belongs to Edmonton now regardless if it's this year or next. Can't be traded. No team trading for him will get compensation for it.
