Selling off big at the deadline

Created by: BluesReport18
Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 19, 2024
Published: Feb. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team continues to show us that they are not contenders. They can outwork other teams at times but comparing the Blues roster to true contenders is not pretty. The Blues have the top line and neighbours as our offense and that's literally it. Defensively, the Blues have Parayko and that's about it. The team is so inconsistent because if the players above get focused on the rest of the team can't step up and fill the void.

I think as we get closer to the trade deadline, if the Blues keep losing like they have been recently, Army will choose to be a seller at the deadline. Names I would put out there are Buch, Schenn, Hayes, Saad, Blais, Kapanen, Faulk, Krug, Scandella, and Leddy. Of that group, the hardest to move would be Schenn, Krug, and Leddy due to them having a NTC.

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Dorofeyev, Pavel
  2. Edstrom, David
  3. Whitecloud, Zach
  4. 2024 1st round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Buch would be an insane fit on Vegas and give them a dynamic top line winger for 2 cup runs. Vegas and the Blues already have a history of making moves (barbs - and that worked out well for vegas) so why not make one more.

Whitecloud is expendable in Vegas with the emergence of Korczak but would be a nice add to the Blues blueline. Edstrom is the true prize here and projects as a very solid middle 6 center. He currently plays with Stenberg in the SHL so that's something too.

You might get more for Buch, but you also might get less. This is just a rough trade.
VGK
  1. Buchnevich, Pavel ($2,900,000 retained)
2.
STL
  1. Smith, Reilly
Additional Details:
I'm doing this trade again lol
3.
STL
  1. Rempe, Matt
  2. 2025 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
It's been said the Rangers won't move their 2024 first round pick so why not their 2025 first round pick. Hayes instantly slots onto the 3rd line for the Rangers and they are already familiar with him. I think he could also be had for around a 2nd and a B-C level prospect
NYR
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($1,785,714 retained)
4.
STL
  1. Pylenkov, Daniil [Reserve List]
  2. Sheary, Conor
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Another team retains 50% on Kapanens contract for the 5th. The Blues get back a young russian defensive prospect in Pylenkov who has some potential and a second round pick. Tampa gets their fill in for Sergachev and an upgrade over Sheary. They also get out of the Sheary contract if he's willing to waive his NTC.
TBL
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. Leddy, Nick
  3. 2024 5th round pick (STL)
5.
STL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)
  2. 2024 5th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
A little higher cost because of retention.
TOR
  1. Blais, Samuel
  2. Scandella, Marco ($1,637,500 retained)
6.
STL
  1. Fabbri, Robby
  2. Määttä, Olli
  3. Tuomisto, Antti
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Detroit slightly saves money making this move. I think Faulk is a great fit for Detroit and would look really good behind Seider. Trading Maata also allows Edvinsson to play so that's a win.

I think the Blues should look to move on from Faulk. Kessel has been fine in his spot and in my scenario Whitecloud takes his role as well. Faulk has the 2nd best value amongst blues dmen and should return a fair amount.
7.
STL
  1. Krebs, Peyton
Additional Details:
A swap of 4Cs. Buffalo gets a heart and sole player and a true 4th liner while the Blues get the higher potential player in Krebs.

1) that report about the rangers is false. Dreger comes up with trash to stay relevant as an “insider”

2) not giving up a 1st for Hayes who isn’t even an upgrade over brodzinski

Why would TB want Leddy for the remainder of the contract? Seems like they need an expiring deal to replace Serg. This overall deal makes little sense to TB. A lot of better players than Kapanen out there.

"Kessel has been fine"

Sweet heavens, man, pass the bong. He's a depth Dman asked to play 2nd pairing, WITH Krug. It's an absolute **** show. Kessel has zero business being on the 2nd pairing. Rosen is worlds better than him. So is Scandella.

Pass from TOR, Scandella doesn’t displace anyone from the current blueline

Tampa Bay probably declines. While moving on from Sheary would be nice, don't see them wanting a $4m cap hit for their 3LD for the next two seasons.

Dude, Kessel is a do no harm depth Dman who regularly does some harm. I have no idea why people act like he's been good enough to hold down 2RD. Krug-Kessel has been our worst goal share pairing this season. For good reason (this rhyme was unintentional).

Liking for the rhyme, but of course it’s the worst pair, it’s Krug and a rookie that has to babysit him the entire game. And yes he makes mistakes but saying he’s been poor is really nitpicking imo

I didn't say he was "poor". That's not the discussion. The discussion is people acting like he's been relly good and can replace Faulk, which is utterly ludicrous. Pointing out him regularly making bad mistakes is not nitpicking. That's supposedly his profile. But he's not really a regular NHL Dman. At least not yet. I will say he's better than Tucker at this time. But that's not a high hurdle. If Kessel was on the 3rd pairing with an adult, you'd barely hear a peep out of me. But he's being asked to face hard competition, and it's a problem.
