Hanifin to FLA

Created by: BJOJUIARI
Team: 2024-25 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 19, 2024
Published: Feb. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Projected offseason if we trade for Hanifin at the TDL and extend him, I saw he came close to signing for 7.5 in Calgary but no state tax in FLA gives us a 500k discount

Also aware I probably should have given Reinhart 9M AAV but I don’t think 8.5 is impossible

Tried to make the Hanifin and Knight trades realistic? Feel like I did a good job but also feel like Calgary might need a 1 for Hanifin and that NJ might not give up 2 picks for unproven knight

This doesn’t help Florida at all. Hanifin isn’t a need with oel and mikkola on the left side. Right side is what needs to be addressed with montour probably not being resigned

Why is Knight still so relatively expensive? He hasn't been much of anything recently, all with a pretty mid-tier priced contract. He's all potential still.

Im pretty 6.5 in florida = $3,978,910 after taxes and
7.5 in alberta = $3,934,350 after taxes if the math is right

I absolutely get where you’re coming from here, he is all potential but that potential is still there and unless enticed with something quality I highly doubt we move him for the sake of moving him

It’s a hard trade to figure out for sure his value is so unknown

It’s not as much a need now as it is something that helps the team longterm, getting a top pairing D is something that helps us for years down the line and provides more clarity on what we can pay To the guys who are UFAs in the next few years

I’d pay it…his ceiling is pretty high. Buddies with Jack. From NYC area.

But we can sign him in free agency for free. We’re not trading a roster player like Lundell at the deadline

Neither of these trades make any sense for Florida.

1) Hanafin isn’t a need. We need more lower down depth at RD instead of a top line LD.
2) Florida has already made it clear that Knight is their future and that they will be moving on from Bob within next year or 2 (probably not this offseason though).

Cant get him in FA if he’s traded elsewhere and extends? And while he’s not a NEED for this year he still makes the team better? lundell has just gotten worse since his rookie year trading him isn’t a big deal to me

How have we made it clear knight is the future? By stashing him in the AHL while he makes 5 mill a year? Yeah ok lol it’s better to move him while he still has value

Yeah, that salary is just too much of a risk vs reward, let alone to pay that price for such a risk. Unfortunately Knight's off-ice issues might be too much to look past effecting him. This mainly gives FLA the cap room to make their other deals.

Cause he doesn’t put up points he’s better all around. He plays on a line with loustarinen and cousins. How is he gonna put up points? Maurice needs to give him a better role. I’m not trading him unless it’s for a younger dman who has top line potential just like lundell. Hanafin is good and all but we’re not sending cheap assets to trade for him. Zito already did that once and it failed miserably.
