Robertsons a 22yr old mainstay with more goals per 60 than oshie ovi wilson and kuznetsov. That 2nd rounder needs to be a 1st.

If Robertson were that great, he wouldn't keep getting sent down to the AHL.

Quality second pair guy, good on the breakout, great skater, really good at joining the rush. His shot is nothing special, and he's a little soft in front of his own net, but all around a really solid defenseman at 4 mil for 2 1/2 more years

I don’t think NJ has any interest in Mantha. They have bigger problems than the forward group right now.

He is very streaky. His first 7 games this year, 3 goals and 2 assists. The next 14, 0 goals and 4 assists. The next 7 games, 4 goals and 1 assist. The latest 8 games, 1 goal and 2 assists.

Not really lighting the world on fire.

Imagine perennially trading everyone of your 2nd round draft picks for players that have overcome 4 years of training and are among the 40% of players that break into the nhl from that draft round, then getting that nhl proven player while he’s still on his rookie contract. Wow. That’s a really cheap player with a hell of a lot of upside. Why doesnt every team do that? Well… Because its not la la land. And internet gms have no perception of net present value.

Robertson stays with us where he’ll be a 60pt player before his ufa deal. Then you guys can pay 5m+ for him after we reap the rewards of a value contract for the next 3-5 years. How bout that?

I mean, maybe. He hasn't shown himself to be a 60 point guy. Why do you think he will be so great? His shooting talent is poor, he doesn't drive possession, he has 3 multi-point games this year (all 2) and no multi-goal games. He is young and has petagree but those guys don't pan out all the time.

Seriously asking, why do you think Robertson will be a 60 point guy?

I was going to give you my honest reply, but I read the last line of your response, and then I re-read the whole thing as if the "catch me outside" girl from Dr Phil was ranting about Nick Robertson, and now I don't want him. So that solves that issue

Yeah no fair question but I think it goes back to his goals per 60. Don't know how you can say he has poor “shooting talent” when the book on him has always been about his release, and he generally gets more goals than assists. Couple that with quick feet and the ability to find crevices in the defence and theres good reason to believe he’ll be on someone’s pp1 very soon. As in, I think a team like the kraken or hurricanes could use him for that reason, today. His skating ability allows him to find good positioning in the d zone, and he doesn't shy away from contact even though he is very much undersized. Think marty st louis, gallagher, marchand, or zuccarello - he just needs to put on some more weight (remember he’s 22).

If the leafs werent already so skill heavy and didnt lack physicality, you wouldnt see him in any mock trades. But for a team needing to add offence to their core, this is an attractive option. Happy to keep him in toronto till he’s a ufa if we cant redeem his full value.

That sounds a lot like what Ottawa has in spades, but at least he's RHD. It actually sounds like you were describing Brannstrom who is seriously, quite underrated. It's not surprising that he leads the Sens at ES in CF%, SF% and xGF%, CA/60, GA/60 the last 2 seasons combined. Second to Zub in SA/60 and xGA/60.

I have no problem trading him because we will actually have to (make a spot for Kleven and already have the Chabot vs Chychrun LHD dilemma) but my wish list is to add a PHYSICAL D-man

I can see you have put thought into this and are not a Homer, so we can have a conversation.

I based his shooting talent on Moneypuck. It says his shooting talent is poor, though truth be told, I have no idea how it's calculated.

I do see that he is one of the better Leafs in terms of defense, which could be explained by being fast and somewhat gritty.

Based on what you're saying, I think he would be a good fit for the Pens to fix their PP. That said, he won't return a 1st. He could be a top line guy or he could be Nail Yakapov. There isn't enough data to risk a 1st. Time will tell.
