Robertson for pacio is one of the worst trades I’ve seen on this site

Flames Decline and go with a better offer with a Top Prospect included elsewhere, likely from the Dallas Stars

Leafs aren't trading their first for tanev. They would've done it by now.

Flames aren't even getting offers for tanev with a first round pick, let alone a first rounder and top prospect

Tanev not worth a 1st. A 2nd seems about right but the Leafs don't have one. If Leafs give up a first there needs to be more coming back than Tanev.
Pacioretty is not worth considering, especially giving up Robertson who would be the better choice as he's just finding his groove as Pacioretty is doing his best just to stay healthy, he's pretty much done.

Leafs likely don’t get Tanev, even if they do offer their 1st

I didn’t say both. I said better offer that includes a Top Prospect. Flames would much rather acquire a Young Centre or Defensemen and/or a Top A/B+ Prospect than a Late 1st Round Pick = Lottery Ticket

Good luck

Hanifin is the Best Defensemen available at this season’s trade deadline, but Tanev is the one in most demand, so we’ll just be patient and wait till we get the very best offer

Tanev hasn't had his traditional long term injury this season. Flames better hurry up and trade him before TDL. I just don't get all the excitement around Tanev.

If that were on the table from the Stars and Conroy hasn't accepted then the Flames are in terrible hands. He goes for a 2nd and maybe another depth piece.

He’s just like Brodie, non flashy, good defensive dmen that can log a lot of minutes, but also one big hit from never playing again

Nah, Tanev is the most in demand player on the trade Board and has several teams bidding for his services

There’s a reason most GM’s don’t pull the trigger till Trade Deadline Day. They’re all playing chicken and Conroy’s just being patient and waiting for the absolute best available offer. It’ll come and Teams will also want to ensure they’re not playing against Tanev just as much as they’d like him on their Team

Yes, because Tanev’s made of glass and just so fragile lol 🙄

Makes sense why you’re a long-time Leafs Fan though and being okay with them not Winning the Cup. You need guys who put their bodies on the line and play like Tanev to get there

Yeah every team is just quaking in their boots over having to play against Tanev. I wouldn't be shocked if Conroy convinces himself to keep the players for a playoff push and then miss the playoffs and lose them all for nothing. Hard to go full rebuild with some of their other terrible contracts

Clearly you don’t have a clue about the Calgary Flames and questionably about NHL Hockey in general with that comment lol

You have Conroy confused with Treliving and Murray Edwards and I guarantee players would much rather be on the rush, power play or play in general against pretty much any other Right Shot Defender other than Tanev

I'm glad you have blind faith in Conroy. Not that it matters with the core players and ownership out there in Calgary. Questioning anyones NHL hockey knowledge while saying Tanev is one of the better defenders in the league is wild. He's a 34 year old 2nd pairing defender with 0 offensive upside. I guess blocking shots makes you the best in the league.

What has all this so called putting on the line done for the Flames. Likely just another missed playoffs, and suddenly Tanev makes the difference for a team winning the Cup?

Most demand player on the trade board???? Nice that you've had contacted with 32 GMs to confirm that. Unless a team (s)has actually made a trade offer, there has been no bidding.

There’s a lot more to hockey and what makes a good player than just their offensive statistics. In Hockey you have Offensive Defensemen, like Tyson Barrie and John Klingberg, Defensive Specialist Defenders like Chris Tanev and then Two-Way All-Around Defensemen like Noah Hanifin & Rasmussen Andersson who do it all

Tanev is considered one of, if not, the best shut down defenders in the NHL against elite/top players.

Yes, he’s a Top-4 (Top-2 on the Leafs) and I’m not sure what age has to do with it, he’s still playing at his peak and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down any time soon. He plays 20mins/night on Even Strength and Penalty Killing to prevent goals against and get the puck out of the d-zone, which is his main focus and purpose, it’s not producing offence

Yes, out of all players, he has the most teams inquiring about his services. There’s been offers and discussion continues, but Conroy is just sitting on them until he gets the best deal possible. Deadline isn’t till March 8th, so he has time to build and work the bidding war for Tanev

Either you’re just not high or Tanev or you don’t really know much about him at all. Flames only missed the playoffs by 1PT last season and are still in the hunt this season, although we will be moving Tanev & Hanifin for sure clsince it doesn’t appear they will be extending

Tanev is a difference maker, especially for a Team like TOR or EDM that has a weak D-Corp. Quinn Hughes is specifically asking for VAN to acquire Tanev. Hanifin wouldn’t be having the season he is offensively if it weren’t for Tanev and Oliver Kylington wouldn’t have had the breakout season he had without Tanev either. He allows his D-Partner to jump in to the play/rush or pinch down in the o-zone without fear, because they know Tanev has their back ends covered

Not one guy is going to take a team to the cup, but you need guys like Tanev who put it all on the line and he’s effective on the ice, in the locker room and off the ice as well, hence why so many Teams & GM’s want him and why he will fetch a very very good return

He's TJ Brodie that shoots right. Charlie Mcavoy is what most people consider a top defender. Writing on cap friendly isn't increasing his value so you don't need to try and convince anyone he's more than an aging 4th defenceman.

TJ Brodie used to be pretty good, but Tanev is substantially better, especially defensively, hence why CF has Brodie rated as a 76P2 and Tanev as an 82P2…

McAvoy is a $9.5mil #1 Two-Way Defender. Go Trade for him and see what that costs you. To get Tanev with a Cap Hit of just $2.25mil is gonna cost a pretty penny and considerable assets, he’s simply that good and that much in demand

Every insider has said they are waiting for someone to offer a 1st and no one has been willing (for good reason).
I guess we will find out in a week and a half. If you consider a 2nd round pick a pretty penny then you will be right.

I’ll be happy with a 2nd as long as there’s an A-/B Prospect included as part of the package

Conroy is working, discussing and hoping for a Young Player or Prospect who can make an impact soon over a Pick and Late 1st Round and 2nd Round Picks are statistically pretty close in what they generate in terms of NHL Players, so the difference is nominal. The additional piece(s) will be of far more interest to me

You got a real beauty prospect in Artem Grushnikov. 3rd Pairing AHL defenceman really put it over the top. Maybe just maybe you overvalued Tanev just a little bit

Yeah I don’t know anything about Grushnikov other than he’s a Decent Sized Former 2nd Round Pick

Was hoping for a C or RD Prospect instead, but add it all up and it’s not too far off from what I expected which was a 1st or 2nd + Prospect. 3rd for retention isn’t bad. Gives us 3 pieces anyways
