If Hanifin comes extended I don't think that's enough. DeBrusk is too uncertain and the pick, IMO, is too far into the future

I'd be good with retaining on Ullmark to get Holtz.

That's A LOT to give up for Hanifin. I'd rather keep Lohrei and add a first round pick +another prospect.

There is probably a cleaner way to do this, but I’m sure some retention would be possible.

That’s an opinion. They can always trade DeBrusk with retention to get something if they want picks OR they can try to sign him. There are many of the same home state benefits that Boston has with Hanifin.

That package, IMO, is better than the realistic deals out there.

As a Flames fan I say keep all your crap and hope he doesn't sign with the team that actually gives a proper deal to Calgary..

I think Holtz for goalie may have been one time thing for Calgary to extract Hanifin in same deal...it doesn't sound like it was offered to Nashville (I expected it would have been)

Yeah it would likely be much simpler with just picks

I am guessing that's why the Hanifin deal is taking longer - either Flames aren't happy with the packages being offered or Hanifin isn't agreeing to an extension long term.

Tanev was a mid-prospect, 2nd, and conditional 3rd with retention.

Hanifin's value is higher - I'd offer Gryz, Merkulov, 2026 1st rounder, 2025 3rd, 2026 3rd and possibly another prospect (Not Lohrei/Lysell) for an unretained Hanifin with an extension in place. Only teams left in the Hanifin sweepstakes would be Tampa and New Jersey. I don't see Tampa having the pieces to acquire Hanifin and would have to make a lot of moves to create cap space next year. NJD has the pieces to make the deal but I think have bigger priorities than another defenseman especially with Hughes, Nemec, and Casey coming up in their system and Marino/Siegenthaler signed long-term.

I feel bad for you. This will be the fourth trade in a row where you get less than you think you should. Just a hint … I’d be stunned if you get a better package for this.

The more I think about this, I like the iteration with NJD’s first round pick going to Calgary and removing Lohrei, DeBrusk, and Holtz. Maybe adding a third to the first, second, and Harrison

Unrealistic expectations are crushing CGY fans right now...

Toffoli = top prospect + 1st
Zadarov = 1st
Lindholm = Eichel return
Tanev = B Prospect + 1st or A Prospect + 2nd

....and reality hits....

Toffoli = Reclamation forward, 3rd
Zadarov = 3rd, 5th
Lindholm = Reclamation forward, B prospect, 1st, 3rd
Tanev = B Prospect + 2nd

I don think I would put Hunter Brzustewicz and Artem Grushnikov in the same category of prospects. My perspective is the difference between those two is driven by the decision to take on the cap dump. Curious to see how Hunter does in the AHL next year. You expect legit prospects to dominate in their post draft junior year.

To Boston:
Noah Hanifin
Akira Schmid
Thomas Nosek

To NJ:
Linus Ullmark

To Calgary:
2024 NJD #1 (becomes 2025 if NJD miss the playoffs or makes the ECF)
2025 third rounder
2026 second rounder
A secondary prospect like Brett Harrison or Oskar Jelvik

maybe take out Schmid and add Vladar to Boston

I view Vladar as a negative asset. I’d probably want my third or Jelvik back if I’m taking him or include Forbort going somewhere

Might want a better sweetener from NJD or to reduce the protection to top 12.

There is something there between the three teams if they want it to happen but it’s probably bordering on the “wait” and try to secure Hanifin as a free agent territory for the Bruins

I think we have cap space to work with for this year. So could easily absorb another contract, retain on a piece.
