Staios said on Pierre LeBrun's podcast: "We’re using the trade deadline as one opportunity to continue to build on this young group. So yeah, there’s certainly a process in place and types of players that we have targeted and value moving forward that could continue to support this very good young core that we have here in Ottawa. When you look at our group, just the youth, and in the most respectful way the lack of experience, you know, you’d like to see if there’s an opportunity to bring some veteran people in here to support it."

Pageau certainly fits the bill as a former Senator and veteran with experience. I think the Sens would want him back

Ottawa considers it if NYI retain a bit on Pageau, if not then there's no way they'll take on that cap hit for someone to play 4C.

The 2nd is what pays for dumping Pageau without retention.

So, the trade is Tarasenko for Wahlstrom.

Ottawa declines.

No Tarasenko. We have no need for a rental when we're circling the drain, and should absolutely not be extending him at this point of his career. We already have plenty of mediocre wings.

we don't want Tank, he can stay in Ottawa. Even though there is talks of moving Pagaeu, we can't we don't have any centers. Cizkas cannot be our 3 center.

I think Zeek would be fine as a short term option at 3C if it means we clear JGP's cap hit. JGP only has one more goal than CC, and the difference in assists can be chalked up to JGP not being saddled with the likes of Martin and Clutterbuck as his most frequent linemates.

Casey can definitely 3C. He looked so much better not being anchored down by Martin and Clutter. MacLean is a fine 4C

He's not my first choice either but I could see it happening

Except Pageau isn't a cap dump. He is a very versatile player as those in Ottawa are well aware

Is it possible someone shifts to wing? I saw Norris' injury the other night but lets assume he's back next year (even though he's apparently made of glass). Not sure that the Isles can make retention work unless another team steps up to do it. IMO Pageau is probably a $3.5-4m dollar player. But with the cap rising as much as it will be in the next couple years, that extra $1-1.5m is not going to be as big of a deal as it would be in a flat cap environment

He's not a cap dump if Isles retain 50% on Pageau.

But there's no retention on Pageau.

Ottawa declines.
