Description

Seattle is almost certainly not trading Adam Larsson anytime soon. He paces the team in minutes almost every game and is one half of their best defensive pairing. Simply put, he's a keystone piece of the Kraken roster that they cannot afford to lose, and for those reasons Seattle isn't considering trading him at all this deadline. It has already been reported that this is the case.

However, since there seems to be a daily deluge of ACGMs proposing Larsson trades, especially Larsson-to-the-Leafs trades, I've created this ACGM as a blanket response instead of responding to all of them individually. Below is a mock hypothetical trade of what I consider fair value for Larsson in a deal with an applicable trade comp. Keep in mind that since Seattle has all the leverage and no incentive to move Larsson, even that offer might not convince them. I cannot stress this enough, Larsson is basically guaranteed to remain a member of the Kraken for the foreseeable future.

Additional Details:

Trade comp: Jake Muzzin to Toronto near the 2019 trade deadline for Sean Durzi, Carl Grundström, and a 2019 first round pick.

Larsson and Muzzin are both shutdown top four defensemen with an extra year of term on their contracts at an identical cap hit of $4M. Muzzin went for a quality RHD prospect, promising young forward, and a first rounder. Larsson should garner at least that much and probably more since he's a RHD as opposed to a LHD. Robertson is more established than Grundström was, but Durzi at the time of the deal is more highly rated than Niemelä is now, so it balances out. The extra third round pick accounts for the disparity in value between a RHD and LHD.

Keep in mind that quantity does not equal quality, so any team trying to trade for a player of Larsson's caliber will have to offer up quality assets in exchange, not agglomerate a bunch of lower value pieces and call it fair.

Seems perfectly logical, only difference is Muzzin actually had the playoff pedigree. Larsson does not but that's on the buyer to figure out how much that bothers them.

Add to all you say the fact that Adam Larsson has appeared in every single game that the Kraken have ever played, and there's a small but significant sentimental factor there.
