In actual hindsight this is not bad but Detroit says definitely no.

Holl was decent overall yes he had major issues and is better as a 4-6 defenseman. But his contract is not that bad and Samsonov is Sammy, how much will he help in the playoffs. Whereas Holl gives right handed needed depth into next year.

Holl has been a healthy scratch making 3.5 mil. It would take draft picks to dump him.

Saw another post quoting this deal thinking More for Detroit next year. While year I can maybe see the interest why would Detroit acquire a rental goalie whom I struggling for Holl where while yes he has many issues is a good 5-6 defenseman capable of jumping into the top 4.

He has been a healthy scratch but same as Petry and other defenders. Yzerman has like 3/7 defenseman that he doesn't need. Petry is not needed which would then give ice time to Holl. And I never said Holl needs high end picks just that Detroit would want a pick like a fourth or a 5th, which for what Holl would provide us is not worth it.
