Hawks obviously decline. How can you possibly think the Canucks get positive value in a Mikheyev deal to the Hawks? Mikheyev is a pure cap dump from the Hawks perspective.

Fair, but Hawks also need to support Bedard with some NHL-calibre players. They have OODLES of cap space. Mikheyev's cap hit doesn't even effect them, and actually helps them get to the cap floor.

Once the Hawks re-sign their RFA's, they'll need $6 or $7m to hit the cap floor. That's one or two UFA signings. And the Hawks need a forward with top 6 ability. Not another middle 6 supporting guy. They have plenty of those already. Want to dump Mikheyev? Pay up! It cost a 2nd to move 2 years of Dickinson at a lower cap hit. Mikheyev costs at least that. Maybe more.
