Sens offseason moves - this is how I think this team becomes legit, and I think this is a good balance of shaking things but not blowing up a lot of the promise in the current core. If you hate these moves, refer back to the title

Yeah, part of me feels like Ottawa would be stubborn with Vegas because of the whole Dadonov debacle, but I don't feel like we need a first in that deal so I thought this would help both

I’d do the Vegas trade but not the other 2

No way I’m moving our 2025 1st
And Chychrun needs a 1st in the deal

You know the cap doesn't work, cause he have two players on season long LTIR, and Tarasenko will eat about 4m of cap for before being traded.
That's an insane overpay for one season of Saros.

I mean if you're at the point of feeling like you can't move your 2025 1st, then I think you need to blow the team up.
I understand wanting a 1st for Chychrun, but I think Mazur is gonna be a stud, and getting some quantity of picks should help because Dorion has left our cupboards DRY

Saros would come with an extension - should've clarified that.

As for the cap, I kinda doubt Norris starts the year, and when he's ready you move the rookies down and swap Crookshank for someone cheaper in the AHL (probably MacEwen), and you're good again.

I’m not saying fully blow the team up. But I’d move 2-3 guys from our core that aren’t quite untouchable

Yeah, me too. The only big issue is the guy that would be easiest to trade (Batherson)'s contract is too valuable, and the guy you would really want to move (Norris) is almost untradeable. I know Nashville would probably want Batherson in a Saros deal.

I’ll tell you why you don’t move the 2025 1st .

If it’s too high then you draft a really good player
If it’s really low , then you give it to the league and keep your 2026 1st

If you move it you’re forced to give away your 2026 1st

batherson for saros might work but it would be contingent on norris and his health

I definitely get that, but again if there's any questioning that 2025 might be another bad year, or that 2026 won't be the pick you want to give away, the team needs to be blown up. Tkachuk will be 27 to start the 2026-27 season. If we have doubts about competing the next two years, that changes everything imo.

Yeah, that's the issue. Batherson seems clearly like the roster player Nashville would want. But this team has nothing on the wing if Norris can't be relied on, and Batherson's contract is amazing value. Tough situation.

I would def blow it up but not in an insane way. Remember we won’t have a 2026 1st

Imo you need 2 really good drafts in 2024 and 2025 and then push hard in 2026.

If Tkachuk wants to go , then you need a good young player in return like Jack Quinn with more pieces as well

the contract is definitely valuable but we could almost use that value to cash in and get an upgrade at a major position of need imo

Rather pay for Chychrun with picks or seek other defenseman if Mazur (or any other of our quality prospects) is a need

Totally fair - Mazur is a really good get. From Ottawa perspective, would rather a guy whose proven to produce well and who could contribute to the NHL team soon.

Welp, unsurprisingly, don't think that's viable unless you're interested in one (1) Jonatan Berggren.

I don't see Detroit wanting to let go of Mazur unless it's part of a package for massive add.

Yeah, he's not a Top 5 prospect in our system (Our system is also loaded) but he's the type of player that's a hot commodity and hard to get a hold of at the NHL level, if he pans out.

Berggren is a fine piece, but if he was the prospect included, Ottawa would probably want a first. Ottawa doesn't have to trade Chychrun, and Detroit doesn't have to get him, so it might not work

Definitely understand that, but they also need to improve their D, and Chychrun wouldn't be cheap. Just an idea, and the type of return I think the Sens should want

They do for sure. I just don't see Chychrun being the guy Yzerman wants.

Feel free to offer any explanations, but I just have trouble seeing how.
