Leafs need a top 4 defenceman, not another top six forward, especially a rental.

Leafs lead the league in Goals For. Kinda crazy to spend any assets on a forward.. Even spending on a Dman is iffy. As if one player is gonna make that much difference.

I think TOR would have to throw in Knies instead of Robertson to actually make it happen. Otherwise someone else is going to offer a better deal.

As far as keeping him next year. Bertuzzi and Domi gone next year, you'd basically be replacing them both with Jake.
I don't think that is necessarily a bad move and you would get more offense out of Jake than both of them.

As far as fixing the defense, I think TOR over complicates things.
PIT won with Hainsey at 1RD.
Their defense wasn't the greatest. But it was good enough.
He cost a 2nd and an AHL er.

That wasn't some great defense either it had Schultz who can't play in his own end to save his life.

Minnesota can't be used to double retain this season since we are into LTIR.
