Feels like an overpay to me, especially because the Preds aren't guaranteed to make the playoffs. But I do think Zegras is the type of the player they would be looking for
Pass by NSH. I like Zegras personally, and I think he would flourish under Burnette, especially on a line with Novak and Evangelista. However, this is a lot to give up, especially considering the right side of NSH's defense looks as abysmal as it does. Ufko is one of the few bright spots for RD's in NSH. If it was any other player on D not named Molendyk or Ufko, I'd say yes.
We'll take the Nashville first but substitute Kemell and Tomasino and the Nashville 2025 second for Glass and Ufko and the Tampa Bay first.
This would be a hard pass by NSH. Kemell is not going to be available, and I'm not convinced Kemell won't be in the NHL next season based on how he has been playing and he has the scoring touch NSH needs. I'm not a big fan of trading Tomasino, but for Zegras I'd be on board with him being in that trade to at least start a conversation. If Zegras is going to cost that much, I don't know if NSH is willing to do that.
While it would be fun to watch an all offense line of Novak-Zegras-Evangelista, I doubt Barry is very interested. He is looking for future leaders and there is a reason that insiders think Verbeek isn't super keen on Zegras. His teammates think he is annoying and he hogs the spotlight. Dude is not a true future 1C and it seems like Verbeek knows it. The kind of guy you will have to overpary for his point production but isn't a well rounded player.
