Every DET prospect is a future HOFer so it would be stupid to trade him.

I wouldn't say that but there isn't an available name that I'd include him or Edvinsson in for.

Generally I agree with that approach as retaining upcoming youth is a safe strategy. Though even the best prospect pools are still filled with 50% disappointments that never amount to more than average depth players of no consequence.

I'm old enough to remember when Maxim Kuznetsov was can't miss.

Are we a little bitter because Dubas has the Penguins circling the drain?

Not really Dubas. Inevitability somewhat. Same thing this fan base went through. Just hoping they don't have half a decade of needing a rebuild and ignoring it. Though Sullivan should have been fired months ago.

Not really.

There is more of an expectation on top 10 draft picks.

Most picks don't succeed.

For every Brayden Point found in the 3rd round there's a thousand 3rds who fail.

Are Red Wings fans not allowed to be excited about their draft picks?

Goalie Tom McCollum was picked the first round IIRC.

BIG miss there. 🙄

Every team whiffs on picks.

Best ones don't do it as often as the bad ones.

I get a kick out of that guy.

He seems to know about every players personal lives and all American players hate playing in Canada apparently. 🤣

And he can always predict future contracts for players.

It's always fun seeing him bicker with Sens fans.

Well he was right about the return Ottawa would get for Cat.

Sens fans were way off on that trade.

Yeah -- and now they think Chychrun will fetch more than they paid despite him being worse than he was pre- trade.

Chychrun is having a rough season.

He needs to return to his LD spot.

I wasn't expecting that response, now I want to apologize for being a jerk.

I'm one of the loudest when it come to trading futures for vets at this point, but I don't think all the prospects are going to be all star. The only correct way to rebuild is through the draft and developing players through your system is the best way to ensure sustained success. Detroit currently has 2 players drafted by Yzerman and only 5 players total that were drafted by Detroit on their roster. With the way Detroit has played this season I think they have opened their playoff window. Now adding big names for futures will increase are chances to win now but they will shorten how long that window stays open. One of the main reasons Detroit's rebuild has taken so long is they tried to keep that window open for too long. So they had almost nothing left in their system and have had to replenish the system before they could start rebuilding their team. If noticed a lot of users on this site either don't have the patients, are incapable of looking past the next 2 seasons or just don't understand how the whole process works. But at this point is another season or 2 that bad when it could add another 10 seasons of being competitive?
