    They're not going to retain on Smith. Third team maybe, not pens.

    Also why leave $6.3M on the table....

    They want to get younger according to Dubas. I would say that probably eliminates locking up high dollar near 30 year old UFA's on long term deals

    yes, but they also want to compete. You can do both.

    Leaving $6.3M of cap space while you still have the core is a waste.

    I don't see why CHI would pay a 2nd round pick for one year of a player they don't need and a pending UFA goalie. You wouldn't need to retain either.

    I'd be looking to sign a better Center and move malkin to LW and wouldn't spend nearly $3M on a 3rd pair Defenseman. Having $7M tied up in a 3rd pair is awful management.

    I don't think Eller will be on the team, they won't retain on smith.

    They most likely aren't dealing Jake to vegas.

    You're leaving a lot off the table.
