Leafs can go for it, the problem is the rest of the teams don't.

For MTL, would rather have Robertson over Liljegren. Then I'd do it. Retaining on Pearson and not having to retain on Savard next year is a nice touch.

wtf... why on earth would you want Robertson over Lily? Laval doesn't need wingers.

Liljegren will be 25 soon and hasn't been able to solidify his spot on a weak top 6 defensive squad for years now. He has consistent brain farts in his own zone, and has floated between being a healthy scratch and a 3rd pair dman when everyone is healthy or not suspended (in Reilly's case). I have zero interest in him wasting space on the Habs blue line taking away time from Barron, Mailloux and Reinbacher as soon as his season is done in Switzerland.

Robertson is 22, could help give Laval offense for their playoff push, or he could actually fit on the Habs wing once Pearson is gone, and could have a chance at helping the Habs PP2 unit (who desperately needs someone better than Ylonen, Gallagher, Anderson, etc... Only good pieces on PP2 is Roy and Xhekaj). In terms of potential, Robertson at least has "untapped potential" left in him, whereas Liljegren you pretty much know what you're getting.

So yeah, between the two it's really a no brainer. Roberston over Liljegren all day.

Robertson is not far off from a full career in the AHL. the fact you think pearson leaving is gonna open a door for Robertson makes little since. A small forward whose biggest attribute when he was drafted was his offense is not going to thrive on a forechecking fourth line and there's going to be no place for him in the top 9. I will concede that he may have a little more value left him in than Lilegren but the reality is neither are pieces montreal's going to want back.

Oh on that we agree. but imo the only way Habs get a 1st for Savard is with MTL retaining his salary next season. The trade proposed above has the retention on Pearson, not Savard. So, a 2nd + prospect is more than fair. And considering Abruzzese is also in the deal, Kind of hard to say no. And then yes, Robertson over Liljegren.

if this was Savard final year on the deal i would agree they would take it. But at this point i think its a first with retention if needed or its nothing and see what the market looks like at next years TDL or even in the offseason if a team feel they would want him for a full year.

Playing the "wait and see" game with MTLs veteran can bite you in the ***, if you're considering trading them. injuries will throw a wrench in their value (Edmundson), or a decline in their play essentially makes them untradeable (Anderson, Armia, etc...).
I know Savard wants to stay in MTL, and Hughes said he's told other GMs he's not trading him (at least that's the public message). But I believe if an opportunity comes up to get good value, Hughes should pull the trigger.

No offence meant but there is absolutely no way I'll ever agree to that. In all honesty, you'd have to pay me to take Robertson.

It's all good, agree to disagree. I made my argument as to why I'd take Robertson over Liljegren (I honestly have no interest in Liljegren for any price, he wouldn't fulfill any role on the Habs blueline, as in he'd take time away from other youth MTL try to develop and doesn't even fill the stable veteran presence like Savard currently does.)

That's fair. Wingers are the easiest position to find/replace. RD always seems to be a difficult one. While Lily isn't top tier, he is RD. If nothing more than a stop gap for our boys to develop (if we trade Savard). Robertson doesn't fulfill a need now or in the future, we're loaded at winger and he isn't big enough to hold a bottom 6 role (nor do I think he's good enough to consider for a top 6 or even top 9 role). Robertson's skill set and size projects him as a top 6 AHLer on most teams, MTL included. Imo we have many internal options that I would give chances to long before I considered Robertson an option whatsoever.

The constant ramming of him down everyone's throats in almost every TOR ACGM while TOR comes out ahead probably doesn't help matters either.
