Take them, Tatars demanding upwards of 5 mil annually so doubt you'd get him to sign at that price

I would say this is a pretty good deal for Detroit to move forward. They already have too many overpaid players and need to start cutting. I think the Islanders would have an issue though. This year is OK (even though Tatar wants more money, give him $5M), but there will be a major issue come next year when 9 players come up due for new contracts and Tavares will double his to stay in New York.

Dude? Tatar just turned down a 5 year $25 million offer from Detroit, Fat chance he would ever agree to a 4 year $16 million offer from the NYI.

The overall deal isn't too bad for Detroit, Just don't think you will get Tatar for that cheap though.

Kulemin, Halak, Chimera and Bailey all go off the books next year. With Dal Colle and Bellows aiming to make the roster next year, I doubt any of them return to the Isles, so thay clears up 15m in cap space between those four players.

Good post all in all. I think Tatar would want more money, and I'm not wild about Green (I'd rather have Zetterberg), but this trade still helps both organizations take steps they objectively need to take.

I didn't realize what he turned down, but I would probably match the Palat deal in terms of AAV, but I'd want 6 years, not 5. As mentioned above, NYI has a ton of cap coming off the books next season.

As a wings fan I love the idea of giving away our overglorified winger and retaining half of Green's contract in return for two first round picks in the upcoming (deep) draft. 3 first round picks (and maybe more depending on how the season goes) would be invaluable to Detroit in the long round whether it be keeping them all or trading up to get Svechnikov or Dahlin.
