Description
Colorado trade- they might be trading duchene for a d man so why not trade they nuge and a first. We send them a first for retaining salary on Barrie and the 2018 draft is supposed to be deep so they might take that

Toronto trade looks like they're having cap problems (they could fix that tho) we send them a NHL ready rhd that they would like would can play there powerplay for Connor brown rights

Give Drai a bridge deal keep him strictly at centre if he can produce as he did then he deserve 7.8-8.2

I like the trade, but I think Colorado would want 1 of our younger D-prospects in Bear or another. Maybe we could do this with RNH, Bear, and a 3rd-4th for Barrie and a 4th? Just my 2 cents.

I'd keep bear maybe RNH Jones a second for Barrie 2 million retained

Either way it is a solid offer. Colorado is going to want a replacement for Barrie...maybe in the Duchene deal.

bravo for not posting some lopsided offer.

See this is how I see it happening. To Carolina duchene and a third to Colorado hanifin and fluery

To Edmonton Barrie two million retained (they can afford it)
To Colorado RNH and a first for retaining the salary or change the first to a second and add a prospect

The trade with Colorado is actually pretty fair. Edmonton could still use a defenseman or two. And as well as the Draisaitl contract might be the right price for him.

Thanks man as much as i would love to lock up Drai long term I'm not ready to give him tarasenko money yet. Give him two years running his own line and if he produces like crazy then I'll commit a 7-8 year contract for 7.5-8.2 million a year

Your RNH's trade is good and fair. I agree with those who thinks Avs would want a D prospect in return. But it's a good trade.

My only disagree is about Draisaitl's contract. Maybe you can't commit him more than 6M/year contract. But I don't think he'll accept a salary like that.

I read today that he wants 9M. But I think he won't accept less than 7.5 or 8M. That's why so many people (including me in my armchair) are specutating Oilers trade him for players like Kessel. Otherwise, Oilers can have a cap trouble after next season.

Nah no way I trade Drai for kessel if I trade Drai it's going to be a team like Carolina or Colorado to get max value but I think he might sign a bridge contract. Drai doesn't have any leverage like Kuznetsov did. This is also Drai first signing kuzy was signed to a 3 million or a bit more to show he's worth it. I think a 2 year 6 mill a year deal is great !

I think he meant like the Kessel deal...not actually FOR Kessel.

This is a tough decision for the Oilers. It's one of those things were your gonna have to pay more than what he is worth at this point to eat up UFA years in his prime. But 9m?...relax there a second...McDavid you are not!
The people who watch him day in and day out can best answer the bottom line question....is 77 points about what he is going to put up? or do you honestly see space for improvement where some games he could have done more than he did? 77 points is great...but it isn't 9m. If he can improve to the PPG+ range...that is elite player status and he can easily command the 8-9m on the open market.

As a Ranger fan, I use Kreider as an example. He is only a 40-50 point player thus far, but you see so many games go by where if he played more consistent, 65-70 points should be easy for him. The talent is there, and the guy has games where he just skates in circles...and then other games where he completely dominates players and is the best skater on the ice. So when contract time comes, what is he really worth??

Bridge deal while more cost effective short term, puts LD in the driver's seat. If he puts up, he's gonna get paid by someone, and it may not be the Oilers.

    I feel for you guys.

Is Barrie really that good? Western Conference fans see him more, so I can't really be objective. Draistail. I don't really why folks keep saying, "he wants 8 or 9 million" It's meaningless "what he wants". He and the Oilers are bound by the CBA.
The trouble with a two year bridge deal for a "star" OK Leon signs it. Then in the summer of 2019, he eligible for a one year arbitration deal which both teams would have to accept. Maybe he gets 8m then, in the summer of 2020 he is eligible for a one year arbitration deal again, maybe he gets 8.25m. Summer of 2021. He's a UFA. So let's not be under the illusion that he will sign an extension after the this two year bridge team.
McDavid had the leverage to either go the two year bridge or the 8 year extension. He wasn't going to settle for anything in between. Does Draisaitl have that leverage?

I understand where you're coming from I truly think he sign between 7 - 7.5 long term 8 year if the cap rises it could be a steal and yeah Barrie isn't a very good d man but he can run the power play very well and having him run powerplay number 1 while klefbom runs # 2 would be a dream

Dylan thanks for the insight on Barrie and Leon. I made a post earlier in the day which included Brown in a Doughty deal. No one liked it, but if the Kings really wanted to rebuild.

Dylan. If Doughty isn't traded (most likely) and he resigns with the Kings (most likely) for 9m. How have the out of playoff Kings improved? Not at all. Kinda reminds of the Price signing this summer. Sure the Habs are justified in being happy that they have a top notch goalie, but it really hasn't made their team any better. And the Kings and Habs really don't have any help in the minors. I just think it would be a brave step and maybe beneficial if the Kings traded Doughty as a two year rental (not necessarily to the Leafs), Though it does send a message to some of your fans, "that we have given up for two years" Those feelings may/maynot be justified.

It's why I liked the Larsson trade for the Oilers. They were spinning their wheels as is. I liked Larsson and to get a dependable RHD on good contract, thought it help the team in general. And Hall, he can help the NJD too.
