Honest Tavares trades (read description) and COMMENT

Description
I truthfully do not think Tavares is going to be traded. However, people are grossly undervaluing a Top-10 player in this league.
*NOTE* All of these trades assume Tavares will sign an extension with the new team. There is no reason for him to waive his NMC otherwise.

For montreal take out the first and put a third, for toronto add a second and third or swap nylander for matthews, for san jose just take out one of the firsts, nashville trade is ok (johansen, ekholm, fiala for tavares). For edmonton they'd probably overrate draisaitl and since hes 4-5 years younger ask for a little more. And finally for carolinas trade it seems pretty fair to me, maybe without the cap retain.

Tavares isnt a top 10 player in the league. Top 5 center sure.

McDavid, Crosby, Hedman, Karlsson, Malkin, Doughty, Burns, Price, Kane, Stamkos, Josi are all better than Tavares/

None of these would be even entertained, except for the MTL one, and thats a stretch

You realize that Tavares only has year on his contract. For some reason many of Islander trades think of Tavares of three years ago as an underpaid star. Take that Nylander trade. Rookie scorer 61 points, star Tavares 66 points last year. Who do you really think the Leafs want going forward? Agree with phillyjabroni, the Montreal trade is the one possible and even at that if Montreal is desperate.

I assumed any trade Tavares is involved in means an extension for the receiving team. He's a 100 point player with legitimate linemates. Garth hasn't done enough.

Love John. You know this. But he has never had 40 goals or 90 points. Lets not act like different linemates put him at 100 points when its very rare to hit that number and hes never ever been close in his career. Ever..

100 point player is an absurd evaluation. He hasn't even hit 90 points, let alone 100. what scale did you use to come to this evaluation?

Put up 86 the season after literally tearing his knee in the Olympics with next to zero help. Put him next to a Pavelski, Patches, Forsberg etc...

I've given up on explaining the "sign and trade" long ago. This is why I never do these kinds of posts: everyone thinks their team is better off than NYI, never bothers to check why Tavares would want to stay, only why he'd want to leave, ignores the fact that NYI would be turbof***** if they let Tavares walk for nothing, then insists that Tavares is worth less than a 1st rounder in return "because he only has one year left", all the while thinking they'll re sign Tavares right after that, clearly intending to get Tavares for 8 years.

I've given up on these people. It's honestly more realistic to just wait until next year's free agency bidding war than let Tavares walk for a stupidly low price "because he only has one year left".

You cannot simply just add the players together and say "100+ point campaign". He has put up over 80 twice in is 8 year career. I need to know how this evaluation meets your scaling method

that's quite an assumption. if the Leafs realized he was interested in being a Leaf, why trade Nylander? just wait to the summer of 2018 as a UFA. if the Leafs really wanted Tavares (a silly premise IMO) sign Tavares and then trade Nylander for a great return if you can't afford both players. There is no logical reason for the Leafs or any team to trade so much for Tavares. Just wait for the summer.

phllyjabroni is correct. please check the declining JT stats. you don't want to committed to him and giving up nylander and other too.
