Next year you'd be over cap with McDavid's new contract, unless you moved a lot of cap before then.

Why trade Drai for somebdoy who is 10 years older, let alone adding Nurse, a 1st and The Drake to the deal

This trade makes no sense for the Oilers. It's basically future Malkin + 2 solid young talents AND a first for current Malkin.

Not to mention they'd be over the cap next year. McDavid - Draisaitl is the Oilers own version of Crosby - Malkin. No point in giving him up.

I don't see the Draisaitl-Malkin comparison, myself. Leon is a very talented player, but he isn't at Malkin's level. You're dead on that the trade doesn't make much sense, however.

As a Pens fan, I wouldn't accept your trade today. Malkin is a top 10, maybe a top 5 player and one of the best players of all time. He and Crosby makes the best duo of their time by far. He will be a no-brainer HoF. My team is thinking about the present, not the future. We still can win another one or two cups with our duo.

If you Oilers fans wanna trade Draisaitl for one of our stars players, be content with Kessel. He's all you can get.

As a pens fan.... I would make that trade all day. Ridiculous value for pens... one for one would be fair value.

I guess I don't really mean Draisaitl is gonna be the same player as malkin. I'm saying that McDavid–Draisaitl will be Edmonton's own version of the one-two center punch of Crosby and malkin. That is if they continue to use Drai as a 2C. Either way, trade still doesn't make sense for Edmonton.

Understood. I've been hearing people compare Draisaitl to players like Malkin and Kopitar, arguing that he should make $10MM+, which is ridiculous. He's still developing, but I see Kopitar as his ceiling IF he develops as hoped for. I don't think he can touch Malkin though.
