Why not just add in the 2026 1st and go for Hanifin. Makes no sense

If they added the 2026 1st it would have been a better deal than what Vegas gave Up for Hanifin. This really hurts.

not only that but like sure dont go after hanifin maybe get him in the offseason because we wouldnt be able to contend this year even with him so fine but to give up our best D prospect and in my opinion our 3rd best prospect overall who should have been a solid top 4 RD is insulting. The value for duclair should have been a 3rd MAX and he just threw Jack Thompson in as a throw in, actually disgusting

Because Calgary wouldn't find it as interesting as a 2024 1st. Duh.

it wasnt a 2024 1st it was vegas 2025 and it has a condition that if they trade that pick in the next 2 days then it is vegas' 2026 1st

Mantha and Wennberg are both better players and the teams that got them gave up less. JBB loses every trade he makes except Hagel. I was very excited to see an offensive minded RHD and now he’s just gone. And the timing of doing this in the middle of a game that is proving this team isn’t a contender is just the cherry on top.

I would even argue at the time the hagel trade was made he lost it but it has aged well as has the coleman and goodrow trades but every trade he makes is terrible when it happens and the cherry on top with this trade is it is impossible this ages well because duclair isnt winning us a cup this year

I bet you that pick becomes a 2026 1st by tomorrow. What a ****ty trade deadline for the Lightning after falling into over 8 million in cap space.

Brisebois is the GM since 2018 and assitant GM since 2010. I guess he just plays Tetris in his office all day for 13 years while Yzerman did all the work right....

can you explain to me why the trades and extensions got significantly worse since the 1st day he was GM? You dont watch or follow this team so you wouldnt understand how awful he is.

The trade is fine. I'm guessing Duclair is getting re-signed, and tbe team needed middle 6 depth far more than a decent, but not game breaking D prospect that likely tops out as a #5. The emergence of Crozier in addition to Cernak,Raddysh,Perbix, and with Schmidt coming up fast as well, left Thompson expendable. I would've rather moved him in a Hanifin trade, but this was a good add for Tampa at a position of need.

Thompson has top 4 potential and is way better than crozier and schmidt. It was an unnecessary overpay, duke should have gotten a 3rd max especially with no retention. I dont have as much a problem with getting duke as much as I have by how much we overpayed for him especially since this is a buyers market right now, how are we the only buying team that got fleeced?

Key word, "potential". He may end up better than either, but he couldn't beat out any of the guys ahead of him for a spot. He probabaly has a future in the NHLas a solid 3rd pairing guy, but he was never going to be a top 4 in Tampa while this group was contending. Duclair, especially when he likely gets re-signed, provides a big need now. Thompson was one of the 2 or 3 most likely moved prospects before tomorrow, so it is what it is.

I highly question the players that were getting called up vs the ones that were staying in syracuse. Chaffee, merela, fleury, myers, koepke, and a few others were okay but had no where near the talent of goncalves, thompson, lilleberg, groshev, crozier and finley. Only time will tell but my guess is he plays top 4 for SJ to start next year and works into a top pairing beating out calen addison and has a 40 point season, he doesnt really have a lot of competition there. Duclair is fine, I dont think he should be resigned I think money could be reallocated better but it just pisses me off we gave him away when we didnt have to, duke should have cost a 3rd at most

Maybe he does in S.J. because their right side is weak. Duclair had no trade protection and more than jjst Tampa was interested. He was always likely to get more of a 3rd. Although Tampa did overpay a little, if it's a player JBB sees as a piece beyond this year, a little extra was required to get the player.

no it is a buyers market and if the demand for duke was high then go after one of the other 15 forwards that are available and similarly as good. I definitely agree that JBB liked the player so he is going to overpay though, I cant wait for the presser tomorrow when he talks about how hard this team is going to be to play against now

There weren't nor aren't 15 other players available that would either be re-signed or are available at such an affordable hit.

I never said resigned and I never said anything about cap hit but heres a few that should have been more affordable value wise than that package:
Zucker
Boyd
Pacioretty
Foegele
Carcone
Smith
Kubalik
Dickinson
Roslovic
Sturm
Blackwell
Ellers
Hoffman
Granlund

maybe even eberle, they are asking for a 1st which I would be tempted to say is less than this package but if he only goes for a 2nd then thats definitely less than this package

And maybe 1 or 2 would be better than.Duclair, and they(Granlund, Pac man, maybe Foegle) would have cost more and been more unlikely to sign. The rest on that list are nothing special.
