I do not think it sets them back any, but yeah, to hand this gift to Vegas... WOOF.

I understand. My buffalo bills released some of my favorite players. I wasn't mad, just sad.

Gotta rip the bandaid off

This may be a blessing and by 27 that 1st might be a good one cause eventually here Vegas is going to flop but I’m still sad to see Hertl go

VEGAS : HERTL ( AT 6.25M )
SAN JOSE : 1ST + 1ST + 3RD + 3RD + EDSTROM

it’s a good deal by SJ. 3 firsts is a LOT. And Edstrom was by far their best prospect.

Vegas either has naughty pictures of Grier or Hertl ****ed somebody's wife in SJS.

This is literally the type of trade a GM should be fired over.

Imagine being a Sharks fan, reading OP's believed return, thinking that it's ****ing horrible, and then seeing the much worse ACTUAL return.

Ouch. Sorry guys. I don't even know how that happens.

I still think this is a good bit of business from the sharks. get out from under a long long long term contract for an older player and get pieces for the rebuild. the retention hurts, but likely no one would take the full contract.

I appreciate building the pool of prospects we have, and at least Grier is getting the drafting component of the GM job right. But this deadline day was beyond the pale, and honestly unforgivable if you're a sharks fan. It's basic expectations that your GM won't trade away players to rival teams or blow retention slots like they're going out of fashion. Alas this is EXACTLY what happened today.

An available GM like Jarmo is looking really nice to me now...

Came out of capfriendly retirement to say what the f*ck and stand in solidarity with all the sharks fans currently suffering in agony.

Dumbest deal I’ve seen in a long time.

I’ve had time to mull over this and truth is Hertl has had a lot of injuries over the years and he is more likely to age more like Vlasic than Pavelski and Burns. I hate this but the player and pick they got could be good for the sharks.
