If they were still interested in him, you'd think they would have called him up to play more games over a guy like Wagner. The fact they've given him only five games even with injuries and ineffectiveness of guys like Kivi and Olofsson (and Wagner) doesn't look good for him to be re-signed.

Guy looked great in the nhl but sent down to work on his defensive Game. Leading the ahl team in scoring. Plus 15, all star.. I'm assuming avs GM didn't bring him up in case he had to go back down and clear waivers.

He's 6"6 can fight hit and score 100mph slapper. Not to mention he's an RFA and it would be poor asset management in a depleted colorado system to let him walk

My guess is Manson but I could also see someone like Lehkonen. Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to see him go since he does so many things well and is so clutch but it's easier to replace a winger than it is a C.

Got it, makes sense, I’m just curious because San Jose has so much cap space and could obviously put all of these types of players to good use hahahaha

I guess for organizational depth it's fine but there are LOTS of AHL heroes that can't translate their game to the NHL. It's not like Kiviranta has been killing it so, if they like Tufte, why not just waive Kivi and bring Tufte up? Just seems like they need him to fill out the AHL roster and don't see him as a serious option to take a roster spot.

My answer would be its because they needed a guy to PK and play 7 minutes a night, tufte needed to play more as the organization views him as a middle 6 guy in the future, when we played his 5 games for the avs he played middle 6

He’s been a guy I don’t think they burn a contract spot on him.

Not Colton, COL specifically traded for him to fill a center spot they aren’t creating another center hole. Most Avs fans will say Manson and it could very well be but Lehkonen would return more and wingers are easier to find at a discount in the off season especially guys looking to play for a cup contender.

What? They have 25/50 contracts to start next offseason with their core all set except for mittselstadt

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!

I just think if they really thought Tufte was a guy they wanted on the team, they'd have given him more games and would have been the guy they called up instead of Wagner. He might get another year but I don't think he's someone they see as anything more than an injury fill-in.

Your comparing apples to oranges. Wagner is a veteran fringe centre who if they lost him on waivers is not a big deal.

Tufte is a pre prime, controllable RFA winger on a team with no room for his skillset this season having a logjam at wing, not the kind of player you would gamble putting through waivers.. scored at a .40ppg rate in his limited showing in the nhl and a .71ppg rate in the ahl.

Bednar tried him and kirivanta at centre this preseason and if he could have been successful he would have made the team out of camp as their 4c.

Next year if Landy is back and drouin prices himself out of Colorado they'll have need of his skillet.
